Lower fat smoothies?

DH and I love smoothies. But they're so high in fat. I know the kids don't need a low fat option but DH and I do watch what we eat so it would be great to find some alternatives. Any ideas? Thanks!

Just mix yogurt and/or kefir, fruit and raw honey

I make our smoothies as follows:

1/2 cup lowfat plain yogurt
1 banana
blueberries
any other berry we have (I use frozen berries except in the summer)
low or non-fat milk
1 Tbs flaxseed meal

Blend till smooth. To lower the fat further you could use non-fat yogurt. All four of us love these.

I make a smoothie with frozen banana, frozen blueberries, spinach, romaine and carrot. When I need some fat, I add a little avocado, otherwise leave it out.

Our smoothies are super low fat!

frozen banana
frozen berries
fresh juiced carrot, cucumber, beet, apple, spinach, parsley or when I'm lazy a splash of orange juice

One thing to bear in mind when you eat lowfat dairy, is that you are only consuming the sugar and carb protion of the dairy.
A good farmer knows that if he wants fat pigs for bacon, he needs to feed them skim milk.

I freeze berries in the summer, just for smoothies. We love the colder, thicker smoothies we get with frozen berries, especially when it's hot out!

ita. not all fat is bad for you, nor will it make you fat. transfats are bad, bad news for your blood sugar, your weight, your health in general. but natural fats are good for you and wont make you gain weight, such as fats from veggies, nuts, dairy, eggs, pastured meat (ie. not grain fed beef but grass fed beef as the diet changes the composition of omega 3 fatty acids in the meat).

that being said smoothies need not be high in fat, though i like mine with virgin coconut oil and full fat coconut milk:

a great smoothie can be made simply with frozen fruit, juice and or yogurt.

How do you make them that they're so high in fat?

The only way mine have a good amount of fat in them is if I add CO to it.

And I'm with the PPs, fat is actually an important part of the diet, as it triggers satiety. A low-fat smoothie is essentially empty sugar calories.
