Born: May 8, 12:00 noon
weight: 7 lb. 15 oz.
length: 20"
We went in on the morning of the 7th for a stretch and sweep and early labour began at about noon. It was such a great feeling to know that I wouldn't have to wait much longer to meet my little girl. I was able to get a good night sleep and woke around 5AM to regular and strong contractions. I laid in bed for 45 minutes, feeling excited, until I finally woke DH and told him I was going to call the midwives. I made a few emails, and called our primary midwife and told her it was happening, but not to rush. Leslie and a student midwife (who had been a doula) arrived around 7:30AM and things were ramping up. Leslie has caught all three of our babies! I had about 4 hours of active/transition labour and I mostly hung out on the floor, kneeling and leaning onto mattress for the contractions. I found it an easy position and got more relief from swaying my hips from side to side. I just let my upper body flop onto the bed during contractions and tried to be as limp and relaxed as possible. I actually hummed through most of the active labour contractions. Sometime around 9AM our secondary midwife arrived.
Transition was cruel, as always.
I began pushing on a birthing stool with DH sitting directly behind me on the bed with his arms around me. I had a very hard time getting her head out, she crowned for several minutes, and her head was half out for at least a minute. We ended up backing uo onto the bed for the McRoberts maneuver because her shoulders were a bit sticky. What a relief when it was over.
Evelyn was a nursing champ from the very beginning. We are having an awesome babymoon!!
