Prefolds on a newborn - what covers?

I didn't start CDing w/ my DS until he was 4 mos old. And by then he was a cute little chunker with rolls in all the right places! So, we started with larges even then. Now, I'm due in 5 weeks and have my entire stash of DSQ prefolds ready and waiting, but I need more covers.

Thoughts?

I thought pull-up wool (like the loveybums) would be good but some friends have said pull-ups might not work well with prefolds.

So, what are the best covers (I think I want mostly wool w/ some PUL thrown in) for newborn/small prefolds?

TIA!

Pull ups style covers work great with snappid or pinned prefolds - just make sure you have good poop encasement since sometimes it gets messy pulling off covers if the poop escaped. The jelly roll fold is the way to go.

I'd try a few different covers - you just don't know what will fit until you try! Newborns grow so fast I'd HATE to spend a lot on their covers.
I haven't CD'd a newborn (will be at the end of June though) and I have 2 wool newborn (Niji) w/ umbilical cord cutout; 2 Bummis original small (7lbs to 12 I think), a Thirstie's newborn w/ cutout and a Super whisper wrap....

For small I have an etsy momma's wool (natural blue cloud), organic caboose, an old soaker I shrunk that should be a small and 2 Bummis.

Have fun shopping!

The thirsties XS covers are great. They fit my lo for much longer then the bsww NB. I liked both. we didn't do wool in NB just because of cost. She did wear babyology soakers to bed though. they were too big but it didn't matter.

She is in small now... for wool we have some lovey bums, a natural blue cloud (from etsy), and a biobottoms. Also some small bsww and mother ease air flow covers. I love the wool! All of the wool are wrap style. For pull on soakers we use babyology and a natural blue cloud.

we used prorap nb size for about 3 mos. they have the cutout in the front for the cord and were just right for my 8lber. the thirsties xs would have swam on her for the first month atleast. GL!!

this is where i bought mine..great deal and supports a mama with 3 kiddos in maine

The first couple of weeks, we used Bummis Super Brites. I liked the umbilical cord cut-out, but they only fit for about 2 weeks, so I wouldn't throw away too much money on them. I bought one and borrowed another. Thirsties XS have worked great, they still fit her now at 11.5 weeks, although I'm sure if I tried a small it would probably work too.

I would get some bummis or thirsties covers for the small stages... newborn poo escapes and gets on covers so easily I would hate to deal with it on wool!!

We used some of the Newborn Green Earth covers and X-small Thirsties. The Thirsties fit longer, but the Newborn Green Earth worked better from the start (though grew out of super quick)

I also really like the Thirsties covers. The xs have fit my little guy from 6 lb up to over 11 lb, and I think they'll still fit for a while (well beyond the 12 lbs they state is the "limit").

My guy has thick thighs and he grew out of the Prowrap covers REALLY fast.

Another vote for Thirsties covers. They are designed to fit 6-12 lbs, so even if you have a bigger babe, they should fit. I'll be using those and some home-knit wool shorties!

Do they still make Bumpy Day covers? I loved those on my newborns. They're a full-cut wrap style cover, which means infant prefolds fit under them well, and they fit a bit longer than some newborn size wraps. They're cotton inside and out, with the PUL sandwiched between, so they're soft, and the velcro isn't scratchy at all.

I'm really loving Thirsties (xs right now for my 3 week old). I didn't think I"d like the velcro/aplix, but I do, and the covers are awesome. No leaks if I put it on right.

Thanks for the responses!

BTW, what is the jelly roll fold? I found a bunch on diaper hyena but not that one!
