used Pampers for 17 months, now cloth, NOW rash :(

please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. I used Pampers for my twin girls' first 17 months. Now I'm using Fuzzi Bunz One Size and occasional prefolds/cover system. I'd never had rash problems before with the Pampers I'm thinking cause the disposables weren't so cushiony and right UP against their bottoms like with the cloth diapers? I fan and air dry a LOT now between diaper changes (something I didn't really have to do before). Basically with a wet Pamper when the pee or poop gets on the diaper it's not right up against the skin as with the cloth, so the bottom can breathe a little bit. How do you mommas deal with this issue with cloth? AND I can't use a diaper cream cause I'm too scared to mess up my Fuzzi Bunz. I made a close to $700 investment total on my cloth diapering system and want it to work SOOOO much. I've done this for a week and a half and don't want to give up! Tell me your diaper rash secret weapons pleeeease

also my laundry routine is only 1 Tablespoon of Charlie's soap, hot wash, cold rinse, dryer tumble low with NO dryer sheet

I know with Charlies you are supposed to use the full amount of soap... and I would maybe try doing a cold rinse first, then the hot wash with soap then an extra wash cycle with nothing. We have always had issues with our synthetics not coming totally clean without the extra wash cycle.

I've had the same problem with converting to cloth diapers for my DS. I have heard that Charlies soap will sometimes cause a rash. My DS never had a rash with disposables but has had it whenever he's in a cloth diaper. I'm going to try another detergent to see if that helps. If changing detergents doesn't work for us, then I may try a disposable diaper liner.

oh I use the disposable diaper liners as well for the toddler poop

my husband is really wanting to go back to disposables. I don't want to give this up and want it to work soo bad, but the rash is like nothing I've ever seen before

and we're using cloth wipes in water nothing else except for washing bums in the sink with Dr. Bronners (which is what we'd always done before anyway)

also because I use the imse vimse liners can I use a zinc oxide cream?

do you use charlies to wash all your clothes? or just your dipes?

Maybe the liner is bothering him? I haven't tried any yet b/c I can't decide which to try. I read that certain ones are scratchy but then I read others who say the same brand is soft. It's probably a personal preference but I'm not sure what to believe and haven't been willing to drop the money for them yet.

How often are you changing? You do need to change more often with cloth than with 'sposies...I know, you probably already knew that, but I had to ask.

my advice.....yes use the cream. turn your hot water tanks mixing valve all the way up! hot water works everytime, doesnt mater what soap u use. add a splash of white vin to the rinse cycle (unless u have hard water). and.....give their bums some time to adjust. if they sleep thru the night, try sposies for bed only for a few weeks till the rashes clear up gl!!

You may have an intolerance to the synthetics in the Fuzzi Bunz. It is about 1/2 do 1/2 don't from what I have observed over the years.

You may also need to reduce or change off your detergent.

Try the prefold's and covers for a bit and see if having natural fibers next to skin makes a difference.

what if I put a hemp insert right next to their skin (like NOT put the Joey Bunz insert IN the pocket but on TOP of the pocket ??????) Would that help ?

My baby is doing better with tide than charlie's. I'm doing a hot wash now with tide (and a little oxyclean every 3rd wash or so), then another hot wash with nothing in it. I have FBs among other pockets/AIOs, and this is working well.

I'd skip the liners, I purchased the same ones and they just looked way too scratchy. Plus, I wouldn't want wet paper up against his skin. The FB themselves are very soft and wick away the wet. Don't worry about stains, you'll get them out with hjot water, good soap, and the sun every once in awhile. Just dump the BMs into the toilet. How often do you change?

Try soapnuts. My son had a rash on his thighs with everything i tried until those. We haven't had a rash since the switch!

I'd try changing my detergent first. Boiling, stripping, and sunning.

Try a raw silk liner, I hear they are supposed to work wonders; no cream with silk. The hemp insert next to their skin won't hurt.

Do you notice a smell?

The only other thing I could suggest was to let them sit in a diaper without a cover but you have BG, they are AIO.

If it is all hemp I think it could be helpful. Hemp is good for the skin :

Even if you can modify for a week with natural fibers you could see if the synthetics might be causing the rash. It happens. One of my children were unable to use synthetics at all.
