Planting Corn - HELP!

I've roto-tilled a giant rectangle to put in my corn. There was grass (pasture) there before. I tilled it really well, but what else do I need to do before planting? Do I have to double dig or rake out all the clumps?
Should I mulch with something to prevent the grass from re-growing? I thought about covering the area w/ straw and then clearing out little spots to plant the seeds. ????
I'm just worried that the grass will come back faster than th ecorn can come up!
ANY THOUGHTS?
TIA!

How big of an area is it? We mulched with wet cardboard and grass clippings and it worked great from keeping stuff from coming back. You could poke some holes in it and plant the seed through that if you wanted. I'd put some kind of mulch down, for sure.

It's about 60' x 40'
I wonder if I could get away w/ laying down straw around seedlings after they're up?

It's worth a shot. That's a lot of area to cover either way.
