May Parents Magazine--Arrrgh! - Page 2

Next issue should include my rebuttal on the breast milk sharing. They contacted me and said they were going to publish it. I don't get the magazine so I won't know if it makes it in, but I did do a pretty good job of rebutting their experts argument. I hope someone posts here if they see it.

I have the June issue and there is no rebuttal in the letters - maybe the July edition?

I love Dr. Jan Morton. She is an amazing advocate for breastfeeding. She also is involved in improving education of medical students and residents. Personally, I don't agree with her on this point. However, it is not an unreasonable point of view to dissuade cross feeding. La Leche League also does not support it. My point is don't demonize her for this one point. She is super knowledgable about breastfeeding and has helped countless women to succeed at meeting their breastfeeding goals.

I was surprised, how ever, that she didn't go into the low milk supply issue more. Perhaps that was an editing decision, it wasn't the main question being asked. On the Stanford website, Dr. Morton has lots of good info on breastfeeding and pumping, including info on milk supply. I would guess she is more knowledgable than some IBCLCs.

The office where my husband works has Parenting in the waiting room. He comes home every once in awhile fuming about it (he loves Mothering magazine!). Their mostly pro-circ info really makes him mad!

I was flipping through it last year while waiting for him to get off from work. I was horrified to read an article about a "poor" mom and all of the suffering SHE had to endure while letting her baby CIO each night. I wanted to vomit.... In the same magazine, they had advertisements for perscription strength deoderant for pregnant women.
