It's not a curriculum, but I like the "valuetales" series. They were written in the 70s, and they are biographical stories about a variety of historical figures, with each one highlighting a particular character attribute like responsibility or persistence, or generosity. My kids like the stories, and they know about a few historical figures they might not know about otherwise. FYI, the series intends to be racially sensitive, but it was written in the 70s and the language might not be what we would choose now (i.e. it talks about the "black district" or something in one book).
