Curious if anyone has read on distances crops need to be to be safe from unwanted cross-pollination? I'm sadly seeing more and more crops around us marked by the scary little flags (round-up ready, etc.) It's not like I'm growing anything for profit or selling my goods or seeds but I don't want it in my backyard, especially since I do save seeds.
Corn and potatoes are my largest concerns since that what is commercially grown here.
Sort of OT - I just read the Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan and it broke my heart reading about some of what goes on. Pollan highlighted a few larger potato farms around here - one of the farmers would not eat the potatoes he grows for McDonalds, he grew a separate patch for home consumption. nice that I share a groundwater table with them
On the plus side, Pollan did highlight one of the local co-op organic farmers
