Umm...Why won't they let you go with the baby?Is this hosptial not a "rooming in" one?I went with my babies to all of thier tests. My third I was told they would allow it but I knew they really had no choice, that was my baby.
My second was given the Hep shot against my consent.i did have to sign a from when I registered and I had discussed it with the OB and had it in my records and birth plan but they still managed to "oops".My third I had a family member stand guard and be her doula and watch over to make sure no shot was given.
Ask them if they have any forms to fill out to get the shot at a later time ( they don't need to know it might not ever happen).Have a friend or family member stand by from the time the baby is born to supervise that no shot is accidently given. They can bathe the baby in your room and most testing can be done your room as well.It may take a lot of smiling and nodding and ball busting will power but it should work out.I hope you have a wonderful peaceful birth.

It is rooming in but not private rooms. They said it's hospital policy to take the baby and there's basically no way we can go with because it puts the other babies in the nursery at risk

I delivered my last two babies at a different MD hosp. My dh and I just had to insist on what we wanted and be firm but polite with the nursing staff. Our baby did not go *anywhere* without dh or myself with him/her. We were more then happy to allow the hospital access to the baby for whatever they needed, (except for the Hep B
), but we came along. Every time. Legally, they can not seperate you from your child. And I doubt they would get CPS involved for you wanting to stay by your child's side.

If you are only looking for MD folks, post in the Finding Your Tribe section - this is an international forum and a lot less likely to attract people from your specific city.
