Cloth Diapering/washing with little water

I have a friend who just moved to arctic Canada. Disposable Diapers cost like $60.00+ a box. I am shipping her some cloth diapers. The next challenge is washing the diapers. Can you give me some ideas to share with her on water conservation in washing cloth diapers. Her water is rationed. They buy water tanks and have to make the tank of water last. How is the best way for her to wash her diapers? What kind of cloth diapers would be most practical for her? Thank you!

I personally have no experience with this, but from what I have read and seen if she is dealing with very little water then flats would be best. They are thin when unfolded and don't hold onto stuff, they are also easy to boil.

Get her flats!!!! She can get away with a cold wash and rinse - or do by hand.

I agree. If she really wants something else, she might be able to get away with pocket diapers stuffed with flats, but the synthetics would be harder to clean with less water...

Yes on the flats.

Everyone I know who has water issues (friend in India, etc) say flats is the way to go.

You could sew her/buy from a WAHM pockets made out of flannel or birdseye instead of a synthetic if she really wanted pockets.
