I have a family member in the Chicago area (actually all of my extended family lives there), and she has asked me to help her find a reputable, responsible breeder in her area.
She has a large, well fenced yard, lives on a private lake (there are three other houses which face onto the lake), and children frequently visit. Her own kids are grown and out of the house, but grandchildren, nieces/nephews, etc are around a LOT.
She has only had large dogs in the past. She had a Newfie for many years, he is where my love of giant dogs came from. But she wants a small dog now, she's thinking along the lines of a terrier but isn't sure what type is best for her circumstances. She is retired so is home most of the time, and has an enormous house. A small dog would be very well exercised just by daily life between her house and her acre + yard. Also, she intends to take obedience training classes and otherwise socialize and train her dog when she gets one.
Does anyone know of a good breeder in the Chicago area? She's willing to drive a bit for the right dog, so Wisconsin maybe?

Same with Yorkies. Perhaps in the Australian kennel club, but not here. They are terriers in name only, one is a non sporting dog and one is a toy dog. No terrier left in them.
