I'm in Swindon if you want to come take a look at ours?

Basically, the starter kit comes with the wii, wii sports, a remote and a nunchuk. This is all you need for wii sports and single player versions of any games. It's worth buying wii play too, which comes with a free remote and is a good way of learning how to use them (it's also very childfriendly.) There's a handful of games supported by the balance board, including wii fit, which comes with it: not a particularly childfriendly game. Get one if you feel the urge later on, not right now.
Blockbuster rent wii games, by the way, so you can try them out. I've only had one that we hated (Big Beach Sports) but it's nice to be able to try a wider variety of games that way.

Thank for the offer! unfortunatly doing that mean s loading me and my 3 motionsick kids into a bus and give it 10 minutes at the most and every one will be throwing up.
Now when it says remote does it mean one of the nuckchuck thingies too or just the remote? do I need both, I noticed they get sold seperatly too.

Wii Play comes just with the remote; the nunchucks are sold separately. Some games do need the nunchucks too (it will say right on the case).

Some favorite multi player games in my house are Boom Blox (really a LOT more fun than the description, but basically you're knocking down blocks, really cartoony -- this has competitive and cooperative modes), Wild Earth African Safari (photo safari with a cooperative mode), Dance Dance Revolution Disney Edition, and Mario Kart.

My 8 year old son loves the Wii Fit.

I'm not a gamer either (not since the days of Q*Bert, Frogger, and Moon Patrol, anyway) but I played the Wii for the first time at my sister's last weekend. So much fun!!!!! I bet you find yourself playing right alongside your DH And DS......

Thanks every one
I've never been into gaming but we'll see maybe I will enjoy this

the only thing I will say about Wii and gamers is that true hardcore gamers may not enjoy this as much as a Playstation III or something like that.

That said, my 7 year old son LOVES the Wii. His favorites: Lego Star Wars, Lego Star Wars, oh, and did I mention Lego Star Wars????

As a family, we also play Wii Sports and Boom Blox. I have the Wiii fit and use it on and off.

While it is true that some hardcore gamers may not like Wii as much, that is not the case for my husband. My husband is a gamer, but he loves our Wii. Right now he's mostly playing Guitar Hero, but we have lots of other games that he plays as well.

I am most definitely not a hardcore gamer, but there are some games I enjoy. I loved Super Paper Mario (I love Mario in general, but get lost in the 3d games). I am toying with buying Animal Crossing for myself, too. Wii Sports was fun for a while, but I did eventually tire of it (but, I'm just that type of person).

My favorite thing, really, is to have people over and to watch them play!

Here are some slightly-hopefully-helpful tips on the controls.

You definitely want at least two remotes and two nunchucks. They're used on a variety of games.

If you're going to have lots of people over to play, you might want more, but you can always get them gradually.

If you think anyone is going to want to play classic games (you can download old-school games like Super Mario Bros.), you probably want one of the "classic" controllers.

Wii Fit and some of the newer sports type games use the balance board.

There is a steering wheel for Mario Kart, and while I love to use it, it's not neccessary. I also don't think any of the other attachments that turn the remote into other items are neccessary. For instance there is one that turns the remote into a tennis racket. Might be fun, but you definitely don't need it.

Here is one tip for the Wii. Do *not* buy the "wii" brand SD cards. They're soooooooooo expensive, and you can use a regular SD card just fine.

So, quick summary: The Wii is awesome. Start with the basic remote/nunchuck combo, and you can always buy more later.

(do any of you Wii owners have Animal Crossing? Is it worth it?)
