most awesome bug in the universe!

i just wanted to share this story:

a couple weeks ago i went down to the basement to get my last set of seedlings out for planting. i discovered that about half of them had been infested with aphids. (my basement is more of a cellar and has a few openings to the outdoors.) so i segregated those on my front steps and planted the others. low and behold, a bunch of other weird-looking bugs started appearing all around my front door. "yuck!" i thought. and then i noticed that the aphids on my seedlings are all shriveled up and white! they were green lacewing larvae! the most fabulous bugs in the universe as far as i'm concerned!

nature rocks :

I love stories with happy endings. That is so cool when something like that happens.

Great story. And I completely agree!!

Nature totally rocks - my house is in a foresty area in the tropics and I use NO chemical pesticides and have NO bug problems. I'm fairly clean so surely that helps, but I have lived here 6 yrs and have never had anything chemical (save two flea bombs in my garage about 2 yrs ago when the whole little village was infested, yards, everything) pest control. I move the spiders to higher areas and redirect ants, keep my food & trash in the fridge or in the can away from the house - but nature takes care of the rest. I have a few raccoons, owls and peacocks who live in this area naturally that keep the snakes, mice and other generally creepy beings under control... the only thing that occasionally wanders into the house are millipedes, which get tossed back outside upon discovery. And ants if I leave a food item out for longer than a day or so. I love living organically. Will never live any other way after witnessing what I've been blessed to witness in this house. I & my dogs walk through my grass without fear of pesticides. Pure. Bliss.

Natural things I've used include food-grade diatomaceous earth, washing the floors with pine oil/lavender/eucalyptus oils, keeping food in the fridge and keeping the house vacuumed and no food items around. Easy Peasy!
