any bloggers want to do an experiment (re: comments on blogs)? - Page 2

I'd love to participate in a carnival too!

This sounds like fun! I've got a blog that could use some traffic!
I'll be back tomorrow to see how this whole thing works!

I just took the plunge and submitted one of my blog posts at Blog Carnival under the parenting section. I don't know if I did it correctly, or how this whole thing works. We'll see.

One thing I was wondering about the rest of you, do you allow anonymous comments? I usually make people login to comment, but maybe that's why hardly anyone comments. I think I have a great blog (The Wonder Years), full of great ideas, and I have a lot of readers, but hardly any commenters.

Would you or do you allow anonymous commenting?

Yes, I would keep it open. You can always delete comments if they cross a line.

At first I didn't allow anonymous comments, but then family members without blogs or a google account (I use blogger) were disappointed because they couldn't comment. So I opened it up, and (they never comment anyway. ) I do get quite a few anonymous comments, though, so I use comment moderation. I often don't get to check on my blog everyday so I like be able to review things before they get posted. I'm sure that some readers find it annoying, but I feel like it's a good compromise.

Well, I guess I'll try that then. I'm pretty sure I have a good blog, but hardly anybody comments and I feel like it must not be that good if nobody comments for a while. Even though I have no reason to-I have had 33,617 hits since I started last year.

Yes, sometimes I feel the same way. I've been blogging for a couple of years and have some regular commenters, but I rarely get anyone new, and quite often I'll post something that will get no comments at all. The funny thing is several months ago, I posted about how much I missed working working in my field (art history) and how I wanted to write more about art on the blog. I got lots of comments about how great that would be, how people were looking forward to reading the posts, but the posts I write on art tend to be the ones with no or very few comments. Oh well. I'm really just doing my own thing with my blog; I guess it'd be nice to reach more people but I want to write about what I like, so if no one responds, so be it.

I read many blogs and actually don't comment very often. I usually only have time at the computer while my dd is sleeping, and she sleeps in my arms, and one-handed typing becomes uncomfortable. I've actually just bookmarked your Wonder Years blog because it looks very interesting. I wouldn't think that people aren't commenting because it's not good! I think there are just lots of reasons that people don't comment.

And thanks for your comment about the photos! I think they're actually the best part of my blog, lol.

I think the other thing that is kind of tricky is that I'm pretty sure people are using the RSS feed, but because of that, I get no referrers to their blogs anymore. I usually like to see people's blogs who are reading mine, but I no longer can see where they are coming from if they are using the RSS feed readers. I wish I could get information on who's using the RSS feeds.

I've bookmarked your blog too, because it would be a great place to show my oldest about architecture and art and other countries (and how to properly dry sausage ).

I'm in a comment train (a very poor member, but still a member) and I enjoy it. I'm trying to make it a point of posting a comment of 3/5 of the blogs I read.

So, do we have something "official" going on yet?
Blog carnivals are awesome for link love. I don't get a lot of comments either but most of my writing is informative ... not really that engaging but I do enjoy trying to add something humorous, If you use google analytics you will also see who subscribes to you. Writing is fun.

I would still love to see an MDC comment carnival thingy, but in the meantime I've been utilizing SITS. I haven't been the featured blog but I've still gotten some extra traffic/followers from doing it.

We could use a similar format and have a thread here on MDC to pull it off.
