UK Telegraph- Poster of toddler breastfeeding doll sparks criticism - Page 2

No. Why is supporting breastfeeding not allowed? Why is it not okay to advertise for the choice that is superior for the health of the baby? If the poster had a little girl feeding a baby with a bottle, no breastfeeding mom would demand that it be taken down, and if she did, she would undoubtedly be ignored and critisized.

The problem is why would you BF? now wait......

cause any answer you give is anti bottlefeeding.

That is the problem I find

That the issue I see with both camps is that, the minute you say anything PRO breastfeeding it's hurtful, mean, and making FFing Mom's feel like crap. And if that isn't the case, somebody is offended by breastfeeding because they think it's obscene or inappropriate.

Imagine if I started a campaign against formula feeding/bottle feeding posters- all hell would break loose. If I was even to suggest I was offended, I'd be stoned from my hometown and back a million times over.

My 2yo DS hasn't tried to nurse any toys, but it's been requested that I nurse Elmo

Really? I'm in the UK and I've never been pushed to FF, unless you count a comment from my grandmother who asked if I wouldn't be more comfortable giving the baby a bottle in public. Everyone, family, friends and strangers, has been pleasingly supportive.

But the poster, hmm. Can't say it would make me think 'Oh, must bf'.

For all the orginasations trying to encourage bf you have the gov giving such weak support I can't really call it support.

Anything not to upset anyone. they should have put a picture of a cow with calf up that would have been ok because with an animal it is apperantly cute
I had a lot of people looking in ... i used the international sign for "go away" then bought net curtains....the attitudes can be odd..we went to blackpool today and my mum kept trying to get me to go and feed dd in the car

I'm just pretty sick if people telling mother's " oh hun you tried" well sorry but 1 feed isn't really trying. I guess it's better than nothing but come on, having kids isn't easy, breastfeeding isn't always easy. One or two tries and people are patted on the back her saying "oh it's hard, don't worry here is a bottle"

Maybe some tough love is what is needed, IDK.

I think if people are feeling bad after seeing a poster like that our country has far to go making BF'ing normal.
yep...i hate people trying to push me into ff, saying that i will have to eventually... ds never had a bottle of formula, why should dd??

i live near rochdale..... perharps a nurse-in under the poster is in order we could take all our kids and their dollys : sometimes i pretend to "nam nam nam" dd's milkies and so does her dolly.... i must be a wierdo...she thinks its hilarious so i dont really give a monkeys!

*just wants a reason for a nurse-in really *

I don't get why a toddler feeding a dolly is offensive : Confusing maybe to someone whose child doesn't (my kids all nurse their toys, the boy included ha), but I don't get how it could OFFEND someone! It's just ridiculous.

ITA. I don't get it. Why would a child imitating her/his mother be offensive to anyone. Both my four year old and my 19 month old breastfeed their babies. We don't have any bottles in the house.
