swine flu vaccine: 2 billion doses by fall

An interesting article:

Antibodies Found In One-Third of Americans Over 60

If a swine flu vaccine is produced, about 2 billion doses would be ready by next fall, the World Health Organization estimates.
So what is going to happen to the 2 billion doses of vaccine that will be produced "by fall" if swine flu turns out NOT to be an extra deadly mutated killer disease (this winter) after all? What will 2 billion doses of flu vaccine cost? Who's going to pay for that? Think they will try to scare us into buying it anyway?

Well if it does turn into this extra deadly mutated killer disease, good thing I'm moving to the woods (seriously!)

They will spin the story as they see most profitable. If they have the vax ready, you can be sure people are going to be deceived into 'needing' it. We will find out the "official story" by early fall.

Over the years I've learned, the official story is always a lie.

So... if it mutates this vaccine is useless. WTH is the point?

I believe the term is "truth by committee."

Yeah, really. Good point.

I hear it isn't growing well so I'm doubtful there will be a vaccine by fall. Certainly not one for widespread use.

Here's another Washington Post article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...=moreheadlines

Quote:
The federal government has asked three drug companies to make enough swine flu vaccine to immunize at least 20 million people..

Although questions remain unanswered about the effectiveness of swine flu vaccine, how many doses it will take to protect a person and who should get it, Sebelius said that "we can't wait" for the answers before putting the manufacturing machinery in motion..

The government's pandemic preparedness plan divides the U.S. population into five tiers of priority for getting the vaccine. The first tier includes deployed armed forces members; critical health-care workers; fire, police and ambulance workers; pregnant women and small children.

So what I'd like to know is what's going to happen when those groups (in the first tier) don't all go running to line up for their shots? What if they refuse? Anyone think they will make it mandatory? If so will there be exemptions? There is no way if I was pregnant I'd want to be injected with this new vaccine thats never been out before! Nor would I want to give it to my toddler! Give me a break!

Does anyone know which adjuvant is being used? I seem to remember that squalene is used in pandemic flu vaccines and that there is a question about it's safety.

You can listen to the webcast of Friday's briefing which includes a bit about vaccine development:

This one has some info too:

LOL. Exactly! That's giving the public to much credit to suggest that they/we will pick up on that little detail. I can't wait to tell this to my mom who will surely run out to get the shot.

My understanding is they also came up with a bird flu vaccine and we all know what happened with that and they never used it. I'm not sure how much cost us or what they did with it though. I could also be incorrect about this, but I am almost positive I remember them talking about how they had a vaccine for it. We will see. The first swine flu vaccine did not go so well, that was back in the 60's I think.

does anybody know if healthcare workers are *required* to get vaccines? i'm not one yet, but i'll be in nursing school starting this fall, and graduating in spring 2011. then i'll be working....somewhere. i don't want flu vaccines! or my child, either. he's 8 (right now)-- is that considered "small child"?

Big pharma is working on making all vaccines mandatory for all people. And then bringing more and more on the market. That is their business and it has to make more and more profit for their investors.

The flu shot and health care workers are on the front line. Always. But even if it is mandatory, you can still refuse it. Ask the surgeons in the hospital, they have historically refused all vaccines for themselves.

they have? how do you know? hmm. interesting.

i honestly don't have a problem re-vaxing myself with some of the ones i need for school, but i have a big problem with others. such as flu, and chicken pox. stOOpid, imo! and mandatory, my arse.

thanks

Oh for the love….! Sebelius doesn’t even need to pick up a history textbook; she lived through this part of history already!

But then, we all know George Santayana’s oft-quoted warning: “Those who don’t know the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat them in the future.”

It's exactly as I've stated before. The name of the game is vaccines, not antidotes. Cures simply aren't profitable. The only people seeking them already have the disease, and with swine flu, that would only amount to mere pennies in the grand spectrum of Pharma profits.

On a related note, although Pharma talks the line about seeking "life-saving" treatments, how many of those drugs truly are? By contrast, how many treat conditions involving the word "chronic?" I repeat: Cures simply aren't profitable.
