Yeast rash with no thrush? Help!

My three week old has had an off and on rash for the last two weeks, and I'm wondering if it may be yeast. We first worked on contact things and it doesn't seem that was the source or solution. He has no signs of thrush so is it possible to have a yeast rash? the rash is redness and bumps on both of his buttcheeks, and just today I noticed some right in his anus which was previously clear. I called his pedi and am waiting to hear back. Here's the info:

1. CD'ing with diaper service. Bleaches between customers, dries a little and line dries rest. Vinegar rinse, homemade soap.
2. It went away with sposies, cloth wipes, air time, burts bees diaper cream, butt baths with burts bees soap and baking soda. Came back after going back to cloth but keeping the other items the same.
3 no thrush signs in mouth. My nipples were both burning the other day but are ok now. The left nipple was pretty sore but I treated by using lanisoh, airing out for several hours, using as second side for shorter nursing and making sure latch is correct. It's fine now for the most part. My nipples ARE pink.
4. c-sec, abx, been taking probx
5. cut out OJ as[ossible culprit
6. This week I got 20 new indian pfs, unbleached from diaper service. They weren't fully prepped by diaper lady, so my mom washed twice here in apt with purex free and clear, more absorbant after that. These are new so wouldn't have any prior yeast or residue but rash is persisting with these for the last 2-3 days plus constant use of cream.
9. Changing pretty often, every 2-3 hours. Started yesterday with squirting a 4oz solution that has 4-5 drops of GSE in it on his bottom after wiping. I read from another source by Dr. Jay Gordon that the ratio should actually be higher.
10. Not fussy, gassy or refusing the breast. He has gas but he handles it fine and is for the most part his normal content self.
11. I had a yeast infection during pregnancy but it appeared to be gone. C-sec, but I pushed and he was in birth canal for a couple of hours.

He's back in 7th gen sposies today. I wonder if part of it has to do with the fact that I put him back in cloth last week after it was clear, but not after it was clear for several days. I'm thinking I should give it more time to completely go away. I can also add some GSE to his next bath. What else can I do? I would like to try the GSE more before using nystatin.

ETA: Pedi called back and agreed it might be yeast. They're calling in an Rx for the nystatin cream.

Hmm, I don't have answers to all of your questions, but I can tell you that I've had a lot of problems with yeast rasehs in my dd. It literally took me a year to figure it out and make it go away. I did try nystatin several times and it helped while I was using it once I stopped, the rash always came back. So finally I started using California Baby Diaper Cream. It has tea tree oil and lavender in it, I think that what finally cleared up my dd's skin, and it worked quickly. It's awesome stuff, we never let ourselves run out. We put it on our kids' bums every night and whenever there's a hint of a rash, it always helps right away. And it smells good too

Good luck with your LO, hope you figure out his rash and get it taken care of soon!!

It is entirely possible to have a yeast rash without thrush - it happened to my DS fairly often.

We treated those with Nystatin cream, and they went away within a week, but my experience is that, untreated, they tended to stay, or to come and go.

I know of 2 people (myself and one other) who were SURE they had yeast.

Nope, it was excema for both of us. DS's excema gets worse if he sits in wetness- thus it improves with sposies since they suck up the pee so well. It also gets better if I moisturize the heck out of his bum. I put a layer a of a good thick lotion down (Auqaphor- I haven't found any natural lotions that work as well) every time I change his bum. I haven't noticed the need to strip diapers more with this. Maybe I have been lucky though.

I'll keep that in mind. I have california baby calendula cream which I may give a try again sometime.

Any idea why it might appear to come and go? It looked great yesterday, then there are red bumps again today. No changes made that I can think of.
