Dishcarge- INgection, separation, or what?

That should say "infection" in the title... Ugh...I'm the typo Queen.

My son is 27 months and from my best estimate, I don't think he is very retractable. I've never tried to find out really, but when he has his random erections, it doesn't appear to be. Maybe a smidge. BUt he never balloons, never acts like it hurts, he pees just fine, nothing is red or swollen, etc etc.

The other day, in his CD, which was a red micro-fiber on the inside, I noticed a trail of white/cream-colored discharge. It had dried and looks like it has been wet, not clumpy or oily, like I was imagining smegma. I sniffed it, it had a slight odor, sort of fishy but honestly, it reminded me of semen (don't ask!, ugh, how embarassing) anyway... I thought back, and remembered that several of his FBs which have white liners have has similar colored stains, but at the time, I dismissed those are diaper cream, which sometimes my mom puts on him. This def was NOT diaper cream, as I had changed him last.

He is not acting any different whatsoever and not like there is any pain. I gave his area a whiff and it smells fine, no odor or anything. He happily grabs and pulls on it and never ever acts like it hurts.

What was that? My first instinct was that he'd had some pre-ejaculate or something, since it looked nothing like smegma and I really don't think it's an infection, based on his other symptoms (or not having symptoms that is.)

I bet you it is smegma. Ballooning dosnt have to happen when smegma comes out and the foreskin may not show any signs at all that seperation is happening. Most boys go through the process never having a single symptom of it actually.

But it was very liquid/runny, not thick or clumpy. Cuold it still be smegma?

I would just watch it for signs of discomfort. My son got a yeast infection when he was about 2. He had a pus discharge and LOTS of swelling - he said it would hurt when he would pee.

If you don't see signs of discomfort wait and see if it clears up on its own. If you are worried just take him in for a quick culture but remind the doc no retraction.

Best wishes.

Yep still could be smegma. Have you read this thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 there is a segment on smegma there.

smegma.

NOT Infection!!!! Infection presents with extreme swelling of penis and fever. The swelling would take over entire penis into scrotum.

Smegma that is just escaping will have an odor b/c it has been trapped in there for a LONG time. As his foreskin separates completely this odor will go away.

Leave him alone and give him a nice long soak in a warm water. NO bubble bath for boys or girls!

Sound just like a stain that DS (2 3/4 yo at the time) had in his underwear one day. I figured it was either smegma or ice cream.

I'm really thinking it is smegma or pre-ejaculate. Everything else is ruled out- he still is showing no signs of pain or swelling whatsoever and plays and grabs himself often. Second, I have noticed he is getting erections fairly often now, especially in the morning or after naps, so I think it may be from pre-ejaculate, since I read that even boys his age can have very rudimentary semen secretions. I guess it could be smegma too. Either way, it seems normal and nothing bad, so I will just forget about it. Thanks for your help!
