Yeast diaper rash

Hello,

I'm relatively new here (first post!) and I have a couple of questions about a yeasty diaper rash in my 5 month old son.

1) cleaning the diapers--I have been pouring a large pot of boiling water in with the diapers as I launder them, and I dry them on high heat. I'm afraid it isn't enough to kill the yeast. Do I need to add bleach? (I'm very reluctant to bleach my unbleached prefolds!)

2) Maybe this should be obvious--we fooled around with the rash for a while before deciding it was yeast. I've been using the Magic Stick on my son's bum--do I need to throw the whole thing out or can I cut off the top or something? (I'm thinking I should probably throw it, but I really hate to lose the money!)

I'm really hoping to nip this thing in the bud quickly, but I'm afraid being too aggressive might not be necessary. Thanks so much!

With the yeast I would boil my diapers, get the biggest pot you can and throw it on the stove... depending on the size of the pot depends on how many you can put in at once. It can be time consuming but 10 minutes of boiling will definitely make sure everything in the diapers is gone!!!

As above, plus sundrying helps, and vineagar in the wipes water worked wonders for us. I actually just did those 2 things and it worked.

Thanks for your help! This provides another use for my canning pot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

We had the same problem in the beginning. Once I started doing a cold rinse before washing the dipes on hot, we had no more rashes!

I've been thinking my LO has a yeast rash, but from the pics I found online, they all show a rash on or around the genitals, not on the butt cheeks. Anyhone have other photos of a rash? It seems afterall my LO's rash my just be a typical rash that unfortunately appears with cloth...

Cook, you may be right.

My ds's rash didn't look like the pictures--it really only appeared on his inner thighs and waistband. I was thinking it was yeast, but maybe not necessarily from his gut (like maybe it was friction rash that eventually became infected with yeast?). It seemed yeasty because of the small read spots that started spreading. I figured either way, boiling the diapers couldn't hurt.

It's still touch and go with my little ones rash, though, it seems to get better, then worse again. I've been using vinegar in the wipes water and coconut oil. Because boiling his premium prefolds was time consuming, I did switch to disposables for a few days so I wouldn't pass it back and forth. But it hasn't completely cleared, despite the fact that the disposables don't rub on his inner thighs at all. I'd be interested to hear others suggestions.

My 5 mo son is Ezra, too

We were having issues with a recurring rash until we started using vinegar in the cold pre-rinse.... haven't had an issue since starting that!! Could it possibly be a sensitivity to whatever the edging is on his diapers? Or the fit of his covers?

Hey that's cool about the name! Mine is 4 weeks . His rash just started getting better. I was using nystatin but it made it worse and was spreading. I stopped that and got Boudreaux's butt paste and that has helped a lot, quicker than burts bees diaper cream from 2 weeks ago. Today I started washing his bottom at the sink for daytime changes, and we're still in sposies till it's completely healed. Then I plan to cut fleece for liners when we go back to cloth. I also was swabbing some coconut oil right in his anus for healing there. It's just red and spotty right around the anus now (not a ring though) and not nearly as read elsewhere compared to two days ago.
