Natural GF/Vegan tattoo after care?

I found a post from about 2 years ago on this subject but thought I would ask again in case there are any people with any new insight.

I'm getting a new tattoo on Thursday : and would really like to treat it with natural aftercare products. I was wondering if a combination of tea tree/lavender essential oils and coco butter/aloe vera might work.

I'd appreciate any ideas.

TIA

I think that aloe might be too drying...I can't remember if I was told this or found it after a tat.
i might try coconut oil or shea butter w/ a little lavender and TTO.

Or, I know Merry Hempster makes a tattoo balm.

Thanks for the responses.

I think it may be a bit late for me to try to order something that I can`t find locally as I am in Canada and getting my tattoo on Thursday (my birthday gift to myself).

Maybe I should try a combo of hemp seed oil, coconut oil, TTO and lavender EO.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, what about washing or not washing the tat? I`ve heard so many different things from so many different people and I find that usually MDC Mamas are well researched so I thought I`d ask here.

What`s your post tat regime?

Yes. Wash gently, dry then moisturize. I'm sure I probably used coconut oil on our tats. Hemp oil would be great too I'm sure.

my husband tattoos and he prefers the natural healing method... keep your tattoo clean and dry (free of any lotions or products) till it starts to peel, the it is ok to put something on it. i would say coconut oil very sparingly is the best. using too much moisture before it peels can actually create big scabs and a harder heal.

Dr. Bronner's makes a balm that is good for tattoes. It contains hemp oil.

It says on the label it's free of animal testing. And the ingredients are
Quote:
Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Avocado Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Natural Tocopherols

Here's a link....

ETA: Darn it contains beeswax...sorry about that!!

I just used my regular lotion...my tatts are a-ok

You could also use that fake-petroleum jelly stuff. I don't remember what it's called - but it's vegan

you mean unpetroleum?

i think oils would be too...oily? wet?

i wash it (starting the next day) 2x/day and then lightly moisturize with a light, unscented lotion after each washing.

and keep my 5yo from picking at it while it's peeling.

Thanks for all the responses. I've has that tattoo for 3 days now. I did end up using a combo of Coconut oil, hemp seed oil, Lavender EO and Tee Tree oil. So far it seems to be working really well. There is minimal scabbing and it takes the burn away almost immediately when it is almost unbearable.

As a side note my in laws are visiting right now and my FIL has some funky rash on his arm. He used my ointment and said it went away right away.
