True Blood!!!!!!! - Show & Book Discussion & Comparison - Please use the

tags! - Page 3

Oh, wait, I meant I like Sam (the one who turns into the dog) and Sookie....but I've not read the books

The intro to TB is really exquisite. It could be a masterpiece on its own. Has anyone else read the Wikipedia entry about it? So smart.

I think Vin Diesel is probably too short to play Quinn, but he does look like him at a glance. I wonder who they'll come up with for that!

I think the show is better than the books, in this case. I can't tell if Harris is just a mediocre writer, or if she's working within the confines of Sookie's lack of personality (since Sookie's the narrator). I was glad to see the TV Sookie was better dressed than book Sookie. Harris seems to always want to describe every outfit (down to the earrings) Sookie is wearing, and I found myself cringing most of the time. It's good to see TV Sookie got a bit of a makeover.

I am curious about why Ball decided to modify some characters and relationships (Tara and Jason, the V addiction, voodoo, etc.), but it doesn't bother me. I don't need 100% fealty to the books for the TV show to work. I actually think it's more interesting this way because it gives me something to wonder about. Looking SUPER forward to seeing what Ball does with Sookie's and Eric's relationship, ooh la la!

We dont' have cable, so I'll have to wait until early next week to see the new episode. It will be really hard not to come here and read what y'all have to say about it! Eek!

The show does bring something more. I do enjoy the books but it was hard for me to settle into them until I realized they weren't meant to be serial. They are really just mystery books that happen to have supernatural beings. The show is more serial though and revolves around the characters more so than the mystery of the week which I greatly prefer as mystery at center stage just isn't my thing but the books are still enjoyable.

I agree about Sookie's outfits. In the books I am wondering if it takes place in the 80s.

And honestly I am starting to really not like Sookie in the books. She is becoming really whinny to me.

Has anyone seen HBO's 30 minute season recap "A Taste of True Blood" with Alan Ball that they've been running? He starts talking about what to expect in season two, and I am so excited and wish I'd watched more of season one!

Here's season 2's trailer

Do you have OnDemand, Georgia? All of season 1 is on there currently.

If you go to the HBO site there is a sneak peak scene from season 2.

Ooooh. There's a sneak peek on HBO's You Tube channel, too.

Do you mean the opening credits? This Wiki here? I'm just curious.

Can't wait . . .

So excited! Just found this on demand about 2 weeks ago and finished up season 1. Did not know about the books. Will be checking them out. I've tried one Charlaine Harris non-vampire and didn't really get into it. Love vampire fiction so I will check it out.

Any other recs for vampire lit? Loved all of Anne Rice didn't really enjoy Twilight.

Will be watching True Blood tonight on Demand after work! Can't wait.

YES! Lafayette is BACK, bitches! I told DH days ago they need to make him a vampire. We'll see if that happens...the future episode looks like that may be a possibility. And, they kept the actor (Nelsan Ellis) out of the IMDB credits for this season....sneaky Alan Ball!

Good first episode! I was LMAO when Eric came downstairs while getting his roots touched up.

I'm going to have to check this show out. I wonder if I can watch the episode on demand because we don't have the HBO package?

I'm so incredibly relieved to see Lafayette alive! I'm in love with that character, and would be heartbroken if he wasn't on the show. I didn't love everything about this episode, but I still can't wait for the next one!

I'm also kinda bummed because my Facebook person who follows the show is in South Africa, so they won't get the series for quite a while (unless she gets a torrent from somewhere). So I can't talk about it at all. Augh!

And the woman who was propositioning Jason and then Hoyt? "I don't teach."

WARNING! I'm not going to use spoiler tags as it's the next day...

Me too! : I was surprised it was them who had all those people in the dungeon. Shouldn't have been though!

As soon as I saw it wasn't Lafayette in the car I knew this was going to be waaaay different then the book and I can't say I'm upset because Ball does such a great job. Like I said I love being able to read the books and watch the show and be surprised. Sneaky Allan Ball is right!

Jessie annoys me. Always has. I wonder where they are going with this.

Jason... ack! What an idiot! But I do love Hoyt.

Wonder what Maryann's purpose is with Tara??? I heart Eric even though he's bad.

I am actually really glad the show is different. I love the books a lot but it's fabulous that the show can keep us guessing.

And we still get to have Lafayette!!! : :
