Anyone not planning any ultrasounds? - Page 2

Having a UP/UC so no ultrasounds here either...

I had two with ds#1 and all they brought was worries because they couldn't see all the chambers of the heart and a few other things... it was really stressful (ds was perfect) and ds#2 we had an ultrasound also (midwife request)...

I loved not having an ultrasound with my last pregnancy.... (UP/UC also)

I'm planning on not doing any u/s or any doppler.
Didn't do either with my last and love it.
Although I couldn't wait to hear with fetascope, and feel those little movements!!

This time luckily I'm more patient, just can't wait for this m/s to be over.
It's miserable!!

I don't want to have an u/s this time. We had a bad experience with DD. I feel like some docs overuse them too. I know they are warranted in some cases though. DP wants to have an ultasound because he likes to see the baby. I think it is his chance to bond with the baby. I don't want to deny him that opportunity, so we will see...

No interest

In U/S this time around. I have a very let nature take its course with this one. I'll get input from spouse in the house though and if M/W recommends (they are not standard under her care) I'll decide then. No appts until maybe month 3-4 and no U/S for now.

I didn't have any with my first - or dopplers - and that worked for us the first time around. We felt really good about our care set up and neither of us had any risk factors that would indicate an U/S. However, this time, we are in China, and may not have the great care we had the first time around with our midwives and doctors... and we're nervous giving birth here - so we may have a late ultrasound to rule out some things that could complicate the birth - totally a comfort level thing for us birthing here.

I had a homebirth the first time, and it was very low intervention - which I prefer. Trying to maintain that philosophy here, but it will be dif't because we won't be at home in either sense - in our home (we'll be in the hospital) or in our own culture (we'll be in China, which is just a world apart)...

We'll see though, if we find a care set up we're really confident about and we are communicating well... maybe we'll skip the U/S. Remains to be seen.

I haven't decided yet. I had prenatal care with CNM's last time and switched to a CPM around 34 weeks, and ended up with a wonderful homebirth. So, with the CNM's I had 3 ultrasounds (one to confirm dates, one b/c the MW couldn't find the heartbeat, and then the standard 20 week). I know my homebirth MW doesn't like them and she uses a fetoscope, not a doppler. So, I think I'll just talk it over with her and w/ my husband and see how we feel. Our GP has already said she'll prescribe one for us if we want one.

very interesting! what are you guys doing there?

DH, DD and I lived in Bangladesh for a while, and found living in a foreign country both wonderful and terrible!

While in Bangladesh I had quite a few friends get pregnant, and go to Bangkok or Singapore for the birth. Is this something that you would consider?

hope all is well,

With my first pregnancy with a CNM, I had one ultrasound at around 20 weeks. I was offered a second during my third trimester (it was their standard procedure) and I declined.

This time, I'm not going to do an ultrasound unless there's an issue calling for it.

Could someone give me the lowdown on dopplers?

I think they work on the same principle as the U/s, but they only turn the waves into sound, rather than an image. I believe (I wouldn't bet money though) that they are less powerful waves? I'm not sure of the correct terminology.

Doppler is actually quite stronger. I think it's like 15min of doppler is equal to 45 min of u/s?

I could be wrong on numbers but I know there's a significant number.

I haven't decided yet if we'll get a US. IF we do, it won't be more than 1, in the second half of the pregnancy...

I know I will have several. I feel that are needed, maybe not for everyone but for me they are.
With DD I should have had more, it would have prevented a horrible birth and her ending up in the NICU have having a seizure.
Also DH had a heart defect, which we found out is genetic, not from him being early as MIL claims. (he was 2 weeks "early") so we need to know about that too.
I won't have any 3D or 4D though, and I try to avoid doppler though. The waves from a doppler are more intense 'cause they're steady whereas with an ultrasound they are intermittent. Trixie would fight to get away from the doppler. I hated that I had to be continually monitored when I was in labour with her, poor baby, everything else was going on and that!

Anyhow that's my take on it. How fun that we have such a variety of opinions and plans for them!

Oh I do plan to HBAC if I am pregnant with twins or less. (which I should be, but there were 7 eggs and an IUI)

I will have three, that is the standard paid by all (mandadory) health insurances in Germany.
One to check if the baby is well in the uterus and the other two to check if there are any problems.
I will not have any other checks done (genetic testing for example.)
To go without any u/s - I think I would be too nervous.
