From the point of a view of a child... - Page 3

Quoted by Tireesix - "Unfortunately, I know a kid of about 3 who has been circed for phimosis in the UK and his Dad was done for the same reason in the UK a couple of years back (he thinks its great).

They were offered steroid treatment but apparently the boy was in so much pain they just decided to get it over and done with with a circ instead (which was the recommended option). "

WOW !! Why in the world were they not offered a less invasive procedure such as preputioplasty that preserves ALL of the foreskin? It seems that their Dr was not as well educated as he should have been.

Of course the boy was in pain!!! They were trying to retract his foreskin. THe foreskin is supposed to be tight and fused. This does not hurt unless you go trying to retract it and tear it off the glans and/or tear the opening. During separation there can be some stinging of urine as it passes over the fresh glans but that passes and is a normal phase of development.

For lurkers there is no need to treat a boy for phimosis until AFTER puberty and ONLY if the non-retractable foreskin impedes intercourse!!! True phimosis can NOT be diagnosed in a child.

It never occurs to them that his parents meant to keep him intact.
Now in the case you were reading about, I don't know, maybe the adoptive parents did request it; you know, "welcome to your new home and family and country and by the way over here we cut off part of your penis" - but in general, if your intact boy needs GA for ANY reason, you really have to be vigilant to make sure they don't try to circumcise him. How sad is that?

seriously?? UGH, like I wouldn't have enough to worry about if my little guy was undergoing surgery.
