Adoption/Inducing Lactation/Miscarriage

I know my story sounds like something out of a movie...and it kind of feels like that too....but here it goes...

We adopted a 3 month old baby boy...with no time to prepare for anything.

After the legal risk period was over, I started to take fenugreek and pump every two hours around the clock. It wasn't working at all, so I ordered Domperidone.

Before I took the Dom, I took a pregnancy test (my cycles are long and irregular, I always have to test before starting any medication). It was positive. I quit trying to induce lactation because it was causing huge uterine contractions.

Two weeks ago, we found out there was no heartbeat.

Now my body is in the process of miscarrying...but it isn't happening overnight.

Is this a good time (hormonally?) to start pumping again? Should I start pumping first and then take the Dom or start them both simultaneously? I am also thinking that the pumping will contract my uterus and help the miscarriage too.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Cautions?

Thank you...I'm really hoping someone can help me decide when the best time is to start pumping. The beginning of my AF cycle, the middle, the end or just after it ends. I am thinking the middle or end would be the best as far as my hormone levels go. What do you think? Although, since I had a m/c and not a birth, my hcg levels drop slowly and not suddenly...but maybe my estrogen, progesterone and prolactin levels would be at a good place.

Im so sorry for your loss.

I would start pumping now. I dont know how far along you were in the pregnancy but this may beneficial to inducing lactation. A very sad situation- but seriously, your milk may come in quickly and abundantly. When I was very young, I had a miscarriage at about 3-4 months, my milk came in afterward. Very shocking to me back then, but something I will always remember.

Take the dom now with the pumping. Try to get on a schedule of pumping with a nighttime session too. Are you using an SNS or lactaid?

I don't think there's any reason for you not to start pumping straight away. As you mention the uterine contractions might now help things.
