Diaper Liners

Do you use them? Are they worth it? They seem like glorified toilet paper to me. But my dd's poop has become similar to peanut butter, but even stickier. It's a mess, and we're only barely experimenting with solids at this point.

A friend of mine mentioned she reuses disposable wipes and washes them, using them for a liner. Sounds like it could work. Does anyone do this?

I thought about using them and got really close to buying a package while dd was going through that sticky poop stage (still happens on occasion.) I was reading posts here and a few mommas said that they don't line or spray their dipes and the yuck comes out just fine in the machine. I took their advice and I remove some of the solids from the diaper by rubbing it against clean parts of the diaper. I just throw that in the pail and the rest of the poop really does come out on wash day.

I never used them however i know a lot of people that do and like them. I'm sure that for some people that have a big aversion to poop and rinsing it, they could be helpful.
Another good use for them is if you have some sort of diaper cream that you have to use, they are good as a barrier.

I just got some to use while I was treating a nasty rash, but the cream immediately soaked through! I was using rice paper liners and triple cream, if that matters. I was so upset!

I have some and have been using them since dd got more "solid" poo.
I like them! It's nice to just be able to pick up the liner (+ poo) and flush it down the toilet!

A couple days ago we had a poosplosion though and the liner didn't catch it all (in fact it didn't catch most of it) and I just washed the diaper and it all came out in a short, cold wash/rinse. So the liners are probably not necessary, but I like them.

If it's only pee I throw them in the diaper pail along with the diaper , and reuse them after they're washed.

hmmm...what brand of liners?

I use them with dd and love them. Most of the time, it catches all the poo and I just flush it. her poo is solid, but still rather sticky and squishy....

I hated them, they didnt seem like they would be comfortable at all! Whats the point of having bamboo velor lined diapers with some crazy itchy crunchy liner on top?

We always just put it in the toilet, and i would hold onto the diaper while it flushed. And most of it always came off. I also keep a spatula by the toilet for the extra clingy ones.

If you get suedcloth or fleece diapers the poo wont stick to it as bad.

I started off using them and then stopped (they came with the package we bought for my DS) as I thought it must feel awful all that wet paper next to baby's skin and washing the poo off the diaper has never been an issue for me. I just about can reach the toilet with my over the tub shower-head and I rinse it all off beautifully into the toilet before nappy goes in the pail. DD is just about potty trained (sigh...) I never thought I will miss the nappies!

I agree with Sandy'sMama about having that wet paper next to baby's skin. It just doesn't seem very comfortable for the LO, one of the reasons I am CD'ing in the first place. I just flush what solid's will fall into the toilet and everything else comes off in the wash just fine. I do one cold rinse followed by washing in hot and then rinsing again in cold. Also, for me the cost of buying the liners (i know they are not too expensive, but still it is $$$ spent) outweigh's the benefits you may have with them. You could always give them a shot and see if they are worth the $$$. It's just not my thing...

diaper liners for absorbtion

i have been noticing that my son is a heavy wetter in the cloth diapers and i was talking to a friend of mine last night and she said that the liners would help draw the moisture away from his bottom. i dont mind the poopys at all i just clen them in the toilet and throw them in the washer. any advice on helpin increase absorption would be helpful.

you would need a doubler or another insert depending on what type of diaper you are using. What type of diapers are you using. If you are using prefolds or fitteds, and want a liner that can draw moisture away, you can get a fleece topped doubler which will draw the moisture away from the skin but also has additional absorbency

Anyone ever used the Imse Vimse or Bummis Liners?

They look much softer than the rice paper ones...wondering if they would be worth trying?
I've used Imse Vimse and Bummis and they each have certain advantages. The IV ones honestly seem to catch poo better, but they are stiffer. You can wash them a few times if they only get peed on. Because they are stiffer, I tend to think it takes them longer to break down.

The Bummis ones are much softer, but you can't wash them! A couple times, when they just had pee, I threw them in the machine and quickly discovered that they break down quickly, and it was like having cotton balls in all my velcro. :

I haven't used either for a while now. If we are expecting a poopy one (my ds's poos are almost always soft and pasty. Hard to clean off natural fibers), I use a fleece liner. Some are microfleece, which you can buy from cd stores, others are just cut fleece from Joann's. The poo comes very easily off the fleece liners and I also feel they create a better barrier if i need to use a heavy duty rash cream.

fwiw.

I didn't use them full time or anything, but if one of the kids ate a ton of blueberries or something, I did like having some around. I knew what was coming!
