anyone CD with only a coin laundry?

How much do you spend a week on diaper laundry? Does the laundromat care if you wash your diapers there?

We are planning on using a service, but I'm trying to explore all my options. I live in a townhouse and we don't have washer/dryer hookups. Moving is not an option right now. We do have onsite laundry that costs 1.25 to wash and 1.00 to dry (we also have a clothes line outside ). The washers and dryers are clean and well maintained - we only have 10 units in this complex and people take care of the shared stuff. Looking at the cost of washing and drying, if I had 36 PFs, I'd need to wash about every 2-3 days which comes out to:

1.25 to wash + 1.25 for an extra rinse +1.00 to dry in the dryer = 3.50 per wash x washing 3x per week = 10.50 a week. That's cheaper than the $18 a week (for 80 dipes and no covers/wipes) the service will charge.

I'm just concerned about washing in a shared machine.

Anybody BTDT?

I have friends that have done it, and it seems to work just fine. Especially in a small complex where you said people take care of stuff!! The only thing that my friends who have done it have commented on is that they found it useful to do a load of clothes in the washer/dryer before the diapers just to be sure there isn't anything hanging around from the previous user. The biggest issue I think is just making the time to take diapers and the baby to the laundry room!!

I've done it. With my first I had no washer or dryer, so we went to the laundromat twice a week. I would put most stuff through one time in the dryer, but that was like 15 minute increments for a quarter, then I took it all home and hung it to dry. I had clotheslines stretched across my living room with fans, and more than once I had to iron diapers to hasten the drying process. It's hard to dry clothes indoors in high humidity =)

I use shared machines and nobody has ever said anything.

I also EC which gave me ALOT more laundry at first, both from getting peed on and all the prefolds she peed on. On the flip side I rarely have to launder anything with poo on it.

She is six months old now and I probably do an extra load or two more per week than I did before she was born.
