Water broke this morning, yet no labor still

So my water broke this morning (unless my bladder is playing a cruel joke). Still no contractions (5 hours later)

Anyone else have their water break before going into labor?

Not me, but my Mom's water broke with my sister and she didn't go into labor right away. She actually had an appointment with her doctor the next day, so she waited until then and just went in for her appointment. My midwives have told me that if my water breaks to give them a call, and that it's not a big deal if I don't start contractions right away. I can hang out at home for awhile (24 hours or so) before they'd need to see me.

Good luck! Best wishes during labor!

Thanks. I've been in touch with the midwives and they are of the same mindset, don't need to see me for 24 hours. Just hope something starts before then!

Exciting! Your baby is definitely on it's way. No similar experience here but I wish you the best this week! :::::

Yes, I didn't go in labor with this babe or my first, but my water broke. Ultimately, I ended up with pitocin with both of them, but it doesn't need to be that way for a lot.

What we tried in the hospital under midwives guidance to get things moving:

Stay active, changing positions, walk as much as you can stand. Nipple stimulation in a hot shower. Rocking. Bounce on a birth ball. More walking. Change up positions every 15m or so.

Good luck!

Still nothing.

Honestly not sure if I'm just peeing myself constantly or if this is my water. It's frustrating not knowing.

Going in tomorrow morning to be checked.

Yup, with both DS and DD.
With DS, my waters broke, I didn't go into labour at all, and 3 days later I agreed to be induced with syntocinon/pitocin. I still didn't go into labour, so agreed to a c/section. I never dilated at all.

With DD, my waters broke and had meconium in them. I didn't go into labour. 24 hrs later I agreed to be induced (reluctantly, as it was a planned VBAC and induction increases risks of uterine rupture). Went into labour but was getting scar pain between contractions so requested a c/section even though my OB was happy to continue with the labour. Again, I never dilated at all, even when I was getting very strong contractions 2mins apart.

I've just realised that both my stories aren't very confidence inspiring, but keep in mind that both my babes were nearly 11lbs, and I never dilated with either of them. Your experience will most likely be very different.

I read some statistics after DS's birth about prelabour rupture of membranes, and something like 90% of women go into labour naturally within 96hrs (4 days) of their waters breaking, so if you and baby are fine, giving yourself a good amount of time to let things happen on their own is probably your best bet of avoiding unnecessary intervention.

Thanks. My midwives will let me go 48 hours after my water breaking, so we'll see.

This is a planned VBAC as well, I am hoping to avoid induction but may have no choice. I truly don't want another c-section. I'm scared of pitocin though... ugh

Wishing you lots of luck!

Yes, my water broke about 5 - 6 hours before labor started. I took a clove of garlic and 1000mg of Vitamin C every 2 hours until labor started to ward of infection just in case it was longer.

With my first my water broke at noon, and I started good contractions at 8 or 9pm. That was after I did some nipple stimulation.

Good luck getting it going!!

Ok, back to thinking this is my water for sure. Had some more gushing while getting ready for bed and a possible contraction. Nothing too major, but some discomfort for sure.

YIKES!!!!

Going to try and get some sleep. (haha)

Hey ladies It was my water after all. Went in 24 hours after it broke, was 1 cm dilated. They induced with a foley bulb and pitocin. Real labor started about 1pm, pushing started at 6:15pm and she was born at 7:44pm

8lbs, 10oz
21" long

Congratulations on your VBAC! That's wonderful news. Was the pitocin as scary as you were worried about?
