What kind of yarn would this be?

At my last LLL meeting, there was a little baby w/ the most adorable knitted booties. They were all fuzzy. I asked her mom if she made them and she said no. I don't think I've ever seem fuzzy yarn, but I would sure like to make some of those little booties! Does anyone know what kind of yarn it would be? They were really soft too.

It sounds like it might be chenille yarn. That stuff is sooo soft and beautiful. It comes in such great colors-verigated too. I have some kicking around here somewhere, even though I have no idea how to knit! When I seen it at Michael's a few years ago I had to buy some it was so luscious. If I find it you can have it!

Thanks for the idea. I don't think it was chenille though... chenille isn't fluffy is it? Or is it? It was like fur almost... the fluffy stuff was long, like a half inch. The baby looked like she had little bunny feet. It reminded me of angora... like a soft bunny. Does that make sense?

It might have been Boa or fun fur yarn. Also, do a search for eyelash yarn, that might help.

It's not Boa or eyelash... not fun fur either.

I think it was angora like this: http://www.yarnela.citymax.com/catal...056/407024.htm

Does that look like it would make fuzzy slippers?

Oh, that kind of fuzzy! Yep, you can make slippers out of it. My aunt made me socks out of an angora blend once, but they were itchy beyond belief. You might try mohair too. I find it to be less itchy.
www.yarnshop.ca has some pretty good deals on mohair blends. They don't seem to have a 100% natural fibre, but they do have a 78% mohair, 13% wool, 9% nylon yarn. The nylon adds durability and washability.

I'll bet it was a wool/angora blend or wool/mohair boucle that was felted. When you felt those combos, they get REALLY fuzzy

Hey, here's a thought...there are alot of fibres that can get 'fuzzy' by knitting wool/angora/mohair, etc and then brushing so that the hairs that were once twisted pull out, you could experiment with a toothbrush or scrub-brush ...but I havent done it, perhaps I've been inspired!
