It's my due date...... UPDATE - Isla Florence is here!

Well, today's my due date - which I never thought I was going to make!

And my waters broke about an hour ago! Having some very mild ctxns, but nothing too severe yet. Keep us in your thoughts today! I'm really hoping to get my VBAC, but ultimately just can't wait to be holding my little bundle.

(haven't been around in ages, but short version of a very long story - after all the dramas with the baby not growing (which it was, but the freakin OB made a mistake!), pre-e etc my midwife told me she couldn't attend my birth at home. So, I'm now faced with an attempted hospital VBAC - wish us luck! Poor DH is in a tiz, hospital really push that you must go in as soon as your waters break & then your on the clock. I'm gonna have to sit on him soon to stop him phoning - I'm going to wait a little while until ctxns gets going & then fuzz the time of waters breaking a little!)

Good luck! My water broke yesterday morning, going in this morning for a check and to see what needs to be done. Hoping for a VBAC as well.

Only had one or two MILD contractions so far (last night)

Looks like our babes will share a birthday

I cannot believe how long it has been since I have been on here! Anyway, 25th May was my due date & my waters broke 7.30am (just after DH left for work to me saying, nah it's nothing think these cramps are just gas!). Not much happening contraction wise so talked him into staying home until they picked up. Went in around 2pm when about ctxns about 8 mins apart. The ctxns slowed off (surprise!) & the midwifes weren't happy with bubs strip, she was having quite big decelerations with ctxns - heart rate down to 40s & 50s. They then put me on nil by mouth in prep for a section, but I managed to convince DH to sneak me in a few snacks & them to monitor baby for another while before going the section route. They hooked me up & decels continued for about another hour but then all settled and around 5pm they took me off nil by mouth & allowed me to go to the labour ward to wait for ctxns to pick up again. We walked, bounced on the ball, did all that we could to try to get them going as I was on the clock & they wanted to give me a pessary at 10pm to get things going again. Should say this was much to the amusement of many of the other more mainstream mums in the ward who were saying - you're mad just go for the section.
Change of shift for the midwifes & we were truly blessed by a fantastico midwife who had been practicing for 30 something years & just seemed to be on the same page as us - I finally felt like I had a staff member I could trust. After a couple of ctxns she was really concerned about babes heart rate & we put the strip back on. With every ctxn her hr was dipping to 30s & low 40s. The midwife spent a long time with me talking about options, but that really she felt that an emergency section was going to become ineveitable during the night & that she really felt should consent and have a section in a more controlled manner than 'we need this baby out NOW!'. By this stage I was starting to get concerned about the heart rate dips, so we agreed to see the senior doctor & go from there. All my wishes came true when this lovely doctor walked in, ultimately she wanted to do a section, but she was soooo sensitive to my dissapointment at how things were turning out & took a lot of time to just sit with me & let me vocalise the options as I saw them and work through them. We consented to the section at 10.30pm, and I truly felt at peace with the decision.

My beautiful baby girl, Isla Florence, was born at 11.16pm on 25th May. 6lbs 4oz (exactly the same weight as her big sister!).

Sorry to have been so long winded, needed to get some of it out! I will regret forever that I didn't get my VBAC, maybe next time , but I am truly at peace with the decision we took AND she is beautiful & healthy.

We are all totally in love with her, and her big sis is just besotted! BF going well, only just started on the CDing yesterday as DH couldnt face the washing, so we have been using up some sposies that people brought to the hospital - so far so good!

The sun is finally shining here in Northern Ireland & I'm just going to pop Isla in her sling & dander down to collect DD1 from school! All is well in my world today!

Congrats to all the new mammas, I'm looking forward to getting time to read about all the births over the next few days.

I'm sorry you didn't get your VBAC, I'm right there with you, but the beautiful baby really helps to soothe that wound. Hope you are recovering well.
