Fabric for Re-usable snack bags

Hey all! I have a wrap-n-mat that we use for ds's sandwiches at school. I really want to make some reusable bags for snacks. Mostly dry stuff but also things like grapes, which might have a little water on them if I just washed them. I know I could use PUL, but I'd have to order it online. Before I do that I was wondering if there was something else that would work that might available at my local Joann's. I would say water resistant would be fine, I don't think I truly need waterproof. So any suggestions? Thanks!

Ripstop nylon?

I've made a bunch for my kids just using whatever cottons I have lying around. I do use 2 layers of fabric. They basicly look like the happy sacs but made with all cotton. They have been fine for dry snacks and grapes. They wash really well too!

Thanks! Maybe I'll try a few each way and see what we like best. I'll try to remember to update!

i use cotton, i know MANY people use nylon inside and cotton out, Ive also done vinyl inside (shower curtain) and even plastic bags.

however are you looking for them to keep food fresh for while 2 layers ofcotton is not enough

No it doesn't need to keep fresh for long, just 2 hours or so until snack-time at school or on outings.

Mommymoose, I don't have a pattern, I was just going to wing it.

This Etsy seller uses polyurethane coated nylon, and here on her blog she explains why and gives sources for the nylon (isn't that nice?).

Anyone tried reusing a juice pouch into a snack container?

I've seen purses and wallets made out of Capri juice pouches . . . why not into a snack bag.

My son has had some pretty bad lung congestion, so we've been pushing, and pushing fluids. Now I have a LOT of the juice pouches!

I'm going to give it a whirl, I'll let ya know what happens!
