Flies in the house! Grrrrr

What's up with this? It is mid-winter, near zero temps, and we have a family of flies living in our house! As much as we try to be considerate of other living things (live and let live), I don't want these buzzing around my family! We have as many as 7 in one room at a time. We have swatted a number of these little buggers, but they seem to be multiplying quickly!

So, I have 2 questions:

1.) Where the heck to the lay generally thier eggs? We change the garbage regularly, and don't leave food hanging around.

2.) How can I get rid of them??!!!!

You're suggestions are greatly appreciated!

well....I once saw a story that the deadliest household insect was a common fly...b/c of disease and stuff...maybe not what you want to hear..but lemon juice and water in a spraybottle..gets flys and mosquitos, everytime!

they must like your warm house...maybe one of the kids dropped something...one time my living room had an awful odor....come to find out it was a tomato that had rolled under the couch when my 3 year old picked a bunch..oh about a month prior...gross...just a thought...good luck!

Lemon juice! I will have to remember that!

We had a lot of flies in our house this last summer. (We don't have any screens on the windows.) After the initial mass slaughter, I found that if I was really vigilant about swatting every time I saw one (a few times a day,) they were never able to multiply again up to annoying levels.

Remember -- come at them from straight above so they can't see you and then WHAM! as fast as you can move.

Thanks for the advice! I started to get so frustrated, that when I was cleaning the kitchen, I had the spray bottle of 'Sun and Earth' cleaner, and had some target practice with them. Boy did my house smell fresh after that!

But, I do like the lemon juice idea. It's cheaper, and it will leave the house smelling nice, too, I'm sure! I'll also look for any estranged food items in odd places.

Thanks again!

That fly

Hi there.

Try some dobble sided tape and hang it up where the kids can't get to it.
Or put a small amount of glue on a paper plate.

This is what my grandfather use to do.
