What's your favorite Shavuot Cheesecake recipe?...It's Sivan Jewish Mamas!

hi all.

Been okay, just busy.

FIL had open-heart surgery last week. DH was with him in the ICU for shabbat, DS and I were home.

I haven't gotten a chance to visit FIL yet, because he was in ICU and now in a stepped-down room, but they still don't permit visitors under 13, so i can't take ds. I feel like such a bad DIL (and I am usually a good one).

Chavi - hugs. Having a family member in hosp is hard. Don't feel bad about not visiting yet. I waited 2.5 weeks to be able to go visit my fil, because between my health, and his infection, and just the rest of the family telling me not to go, I stayed away. It was the best choice at the time, and when he was feeling well enough to appreciate the visit (and wasn't being taken away for tests all the time) it was a good time to go. Of course, I did not have kids to find care for, but in the past I've either found a friend who will watch them for me, or gone at a time when dh could babysit (that was when it was my grandmother).
I tried to be useful as support staff - sending food for everyone, doing shopping when needed, holding the fort at home.
BTW, if anyone puts 2 and 2 together, it's still not public, so please don't assume others know!

The first link takes me to the facebook homepage. I'm guessing you can't see it if you aren't your facebook friend. It looks yummy.

Ugh. Think I missed Rosh Chodesh. It's Sivan already?

Just put in a marathon weekend on the house. It looks worse than before we started, but the house now has electricity in the hallway and all the bedrooms. Whoop de doo. I expected much more to get done, but I guess not. Two bedrooms are almost ready to be painted. That's good (because we only need 2 to move in), but the bathroom and kitchen will have to wait for 2 weeks, when famuily comes again.

So shoot me, but I hate cheesecake. I plan on having lots of ice cream and cottage cheese this Shavuot.

I'm also not into cheesecake - but then, I don't particularly care for milchigs (except for pizza and the occasional lasagna). Doesn't matter much to us, as we can't do dairy...

Cheesecake in any title always catches my eye.

Here's a list of 10 favorite ones... http://kosherfood.about.com/od/shavu...ecake_shav.htm

Personally, we usually make this recipe from "The Best Light Recipe" (which is super rich nonetheless).

That's sad... I have considered going 100% kosher by just becoming a vegetarian. That's how much I love milchigs. The worst thing ever was in my 2nd tri with DS when I couldn't have dairy any more. I cried.

I'm better now, though.

yes the whole allergy thing is sad. The list of foods my family can't eat is humongous.

I made cheesecake today so too late for new recipes for me. Any ideas how to make a graham cracker crust from whole grain graham flour? My attempt didn't come out too great.

faliciagayle - B'shaa tova!!!

My FIL is supposed to come home from the hospital on Thursday (erev Yuntif) so I told my in-laws that we'd come for yuntif and I'd bring all the food.

I have to do the cooking here (at least for the first 2 meals) because my MIL has very few milchig pots & pans. I'll throw together chicken soup and cholent on Friday for shabbas meals (thank goodness for Erev Tavshilin!).

Going to finally be a good DIL and visit my FIL this AM...

I am looking forward to my yummy shavuos noodle kugel and dairy salads...yum.

I've used this brand of graham crackers for crust before... I'm not sure if it will work for your dietary needs but it's kosher/dairy, whole, nothing icky, etc.

Chavela - thank you

I just looked over at DD who has put a pair of my clean underpants over her head/shoulder and has her babydoll in it like a sling.

Faligiagayle- that's too cute!

I'm feeling OKish. My foot still hurts, but it doesn't seem to hurt any worse if I walk on it or not, so I'm not restricting my activities. I made an appt to see my dr next week, and if it still hurts by then, I'll tell her about it. This just doesn't seem "bad enough" to rush in and see the dr in the crazy busy week before Yom Tov, especially when "rushed in" dr appts usually aren't complete checkups and I'd still have to go back to her for that.

School choices seem settled. DD2 will sign up for the public middle school, where a good friend of hers already attends. DS is probably going to be homeschooled, unless he REALLY drives me nuts over the summer and I think HSing would be a bad idea. DD1 is hoping and praying to go to that small new girls' yeshiva in the 5T. She's been accepted, but now the problem is finding the funding for her to be able to go. If she can't, then the local public high school it is. :

For a "graham cracker crust" from raw flour, you need to use lots of margarine or butter and brown sugar along with the flour. The texture won't be exactly the same as if you'd used crumbled cookies, but it's close enough.

Study at Pardes for free!!

I would so absolutely do this - except I'd have to leave DD and DH, and, well, I don't think that's an option.

Can any of you wise and learned ladies recommend a similar type program in the States? I've been wanting to do some serious, immersive study for many years now but I'm not sure where to look.
