Olive oil on NB bum

I've heard it's a good idea to put a thin coat of olive oil on a newborn's bottom because it helps the meconium slide off when you change those first-few-days diapers. Is the olive oil okay for the dipes? (I've heard that diaper creams/Desitin, etc, are no-nos because they ruin CDs. Just wondering if the olive oil would hurt absorbency, too, or would/wouldn't wash out...) Thanks!
