Harrassed at Walmart for b/f

On 1/17/04 I was at store #2729 in Fort Collins, Co. While in the checkout line I was breastfeeding my daughter when a store employee came up to me and asked me to coverup. Well, I didn't have a cover so she suggested I put my husbands heavy leather coat over her or go to the restroom. She said I was practically displaying public nudity...You could barely see my breast and I was feeding my daughter not running around naked! I will never shop at Walmart again. I've never had problems at Target or Kmart!

Did you write a letter to them? They need to know that what they did was wrong!

im sorry that happened to you, that's inexcusable. have you spoken to the manager? i would do that immedietly. and speak to the district manager as well. im sure that they will fix it. walmart, big evil satanic empire of hell that they are, has a vested interest in keeping thier family image.

i hate walmart.

can you tell?

i wish i was closer, id be there for the nurse in so fast...good luck, let us know how everything goes.

I was so embarrassed that I didn't get the employees name or anything. You can send e-mail to Walmart from their website walmart.com customer service. Thier toll free number is 1-800-Walmart The particular store where this happened was Walmart super center store # 2729 address: 1250 E Magnolia Street Fort Collins, Co. 80524 their local phone # is 493-3048

1-800-Walmart works!

My husband was an assistant manager with the company and calling that makes your complaint get tracked. Calling the local manager is good, but sometimes you can get pushed under the rug with them telling you they took care of it. Calling the toll free line the management of the corporation track that the complaint was resolved. They can tell the cashier by the number on your reciept, so it is ok you don't remember just tell them the number on there when you call.

They have a policy directly addressing not bugging a nursing mom for any reason and telling other customers if they complain that it is the mom's right. I am paraphrasing, but I have read it. I had DH check on it when I got pregnant and starting supporting the right to feed my baby.

Oh how I hate Walmart. They are so evil.

Nevermind all the child-labor laws they violate. They are so uptight they don't carry certain CDs or magazines their corporate HQ deems unseemly. Thanks for making my mind up for me about Cosmo, Walmart. I really need your input to guard my sensibilities! Not!

And now this.

World's largest and most uptight company.

Avoid them. Take your money elsewhere. Anywhere else.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up how I feel about them too! Sorry that happened to you, caynasmom. I'd head to the local Walmart for a nurse-in in your honor, but I refuse to set foot in there for any reason. Good luck to you!

From what i found on the net Colorado has no breastfeeding laws but that doesn't make it illegal.

I have a friend that had trouble at Walmart for nursing several years ago. An associate came up and asked her if she was almost done. I told her I would have said, "Why, are you hungry?" :LOL Walmart should be ashamed of themselves. I guess they can't have nursing moms in their store because it might seem more normal to people and then they won't sell as much of their formula. lol

Good luck with the nurse in!

Outrageous!

I'm sorry this happened, caynasmom.

Good luck at the nurse-in. Have you contacted all your area La Leche Leagues? Midwives? Doulas?

I hope lots of moms show up. Walmart sucks.
