Right now in my metaphysics class we are focusing on dreams. I just started keeping a dream journal and setting intentions to remember my dreams. I had an interesting one last night but I don't know what it means. Another exercise we are supposed to be doing everyday is sitting in a comfy chair in front of a mirror for 10 mins and comfortably gazing at our 3rd eye. Then we are supposed to journal about our experiences.

On a funny note my 2 yo daughter just told me she is god... lol
My curiosity is piqued - what does metaphysics mean in this context? I've never heard the word used that way before.

In what context? Referring to dreams?

I consider us pretty new age-y. Dh and I are really into tarot cards ( does that count as new age? I guess so..) But also, Dh attends and plays music at a Center for Spiritual Living, which is part of the New Thought movement. It's pretty cool too.

Well, to me metaphysics wouldn't really have any connection to dreams or New Age-y stuff, per say - it's a particular branch of philosophy which deals with being qua being. I've never heard it used in relation to dreams and so forth.

Well, I'm very new to metaphysics, but the way I understand it is that dreams are our subconscious speaking to us. Metaphysics means "beyond physical" so in my mind they go together. Our dreams help us to achieve a higher state of consciousness.

thought of this thread yesterday-- went to my old (as in almost as old as me!) fave "new age" store... and you know, i wouldnt call it "new age" anymore... it's so... "old" new age... kwim? which made me think... maybe we dont see so many people id-ing as "new age" anymore because it's become so.... amorphous. there are umpteen elements that might make up NA, but each person IDs with x y & z of them, or not as NA, or just as z element, and so on.... i wonder if there are sub-categories that are somewhat consistent (i'm thinking of people who really love sedona, for example... a sort of astral, native american, crystaline NA, maybe? i dunno....)? anyhow, made me smile, thought of you!

I think that a lot of the new age movement is about losing labels anyway. It's about uniting for the common good of everyone. For the universe. A change needs to take place and people of all backgrounds are recognizing this. Was it the late 80's early 90's when the "new age" movement started? I don't know from experience b/c I was born is '84, too young to remember. Anyhow, things have def changed since then (I've read a lot of New Age books that were written then). It's the evolution of spirituality IMO. I read something about some ancient glyphs that were found and someone interpreted them as showing the different phases of human evolution and the dates. Apparently we are evolving at much higher rates right now. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I can't remember what it is called. It's just something I read that I thought was interesting.

I was born in '77, and I would suppose the NA movement was stirring up "new" stuff in the 80's and gained momentum in the 90's. Although the Seth material is earlier, and several books I've read at reference Seth material. I tried to read Seth books when I was a young teenager, and it just went right over my head!

Any ancient references to human spiritual evolution are fascintating to me- do share if you find what you're talking about.

After many searches online to find what I am looking for, I keep coming up with the Mayan calendar. That may be what it is I'm talking about. If I find a good site showing it the way I saw it depicted I will post a link to it.

omg, i'm old. sigh. yeah, in my book, "new age" is older than that. from wiki:

The modern New Age Movement began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, although elements can be traced back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It gained momentum in the 1980s and strengthened with the Harmonic Convergence event in 1987.

and now, we're onto the 2012 stuff. this gets more into, for me, the realms of ascension, and so on. this is where my earthy, tree hugging side kicks in. there are some threads here about 2012... maybe search those.

Well! I learn something new everyday.

Ascension... this is where my earthy side kicks in too! I love me some earth. 2012... I studied this topic quite a bit for a while and, well, there are so many theories. I'm just going to keep doin' my thing and hope that whatever happens it's wonderful! I have friends who are quite literally ready for a pole shift. They have it AAALLLL, and I mean ALLLL worked out. Underground shelters, food supply, etc... I'm not counting on a pole shift. This is a very intense topic I tried searching for it on here but the search button is not working for me right now.

Thanks for that link. I actually remember coming across it a couple of years ago when I first started getting anxious about everything that is going on... I find comfort in it now. I read through the whole thing this time. I'm learning to keep my hopes up and see only uplifting experiences in my life as far as everything goes.

I've started reading that thread a couple times, but I've never made it all the way to the end. I'm trying though.
