American Idol - Page 2

I only have two words to say.... SCAT GIRL.

I am not a huge american idol fan, I must admit, last season I only watched the beginning to hear the bad auditions..... but still
SCAT GIRL... let me tell you it was worth watching for!

OMG the drama that has been going on is cracking me up! That guy that threw water on Simon? He was AWFUL! How do these people not know they suck?
And that girl last night who would NOT stop singing. She's all "it's nerves, it's nerves" and they were like "No, your voice is scary!" :LOL :LOL
I'm so ashamed to admit I love this show.

They've hardley shown any of the "good" people this time...I wonder if they thought they'd leave us guessing at what the good ones sound like and show us mostly "bad" singers.

I have enjoyed the show though....Dd is too funny watching it. She makes this funny face when the singers are on the bad side.

:LOL

We didn't even hear 10 good singers over the course of 3 nights. I think they're trying to make it suspenseful to keep us watching.
Like I need that to keep me watching!

Dang! We forgot it was on last night, and it sounds like it was a good one! Someone threw water on Simon?! Well, I'm sure they'll show that clip again (and again, and again...). :LOL

well, I was wrong about what AI is supposed to be about next week. They originally said this week was going to be about the auditions in the individual cities and then next week would be the semi-finalists in LA. But now next week is a continuation of the auditions in individual cities.

The bad auditions are painful to listen to...

And did anyone else catch that they only took 12 people from Houston to send to LA??? That's not very many at all!!!!!!!!

warmly,
claudia

He hates it and thinks it's a terrible show. He says so much of it is slamming the feelings of fragile people. Or watching morons get hurt. I dunno. I don't like when they are criticizing people who are trying and probably have voices that aren't that bad. Some of the people are horrible and couldn't carry a tune in a paper bag, but in some cases there is a thin line between good and bad. I never know they ones they stop because they hate them, or because they like them. Anyone know what I mean? Some of the contestants are actually praised for their good voices and they don't sound all that great to me. Maybe you have to hear it live. The girl that Paula and Simon disliked, the fake 16 year old--well I agree with Randy. She's 16! Of course she's probably a bit affected and silly, she looks old, but is still just a kid. I thought she really trying to exhibit a persona that she thinks a pop star would have. I didn't care for her personality that much from what I could see, but I thought they should give her a chance.

I missed the Scooter girl one. Was that the first night? My husband set TiVo up to get it, but he thinks at the last minute he pressed not to record by accident. : Umm, yeah, sure, accident!

My brother almost went and auditioned for it last year. They have you sign so many waivers basically saying "this is an entertainment show and if you stink we will make fun of you" it also had a bunch of stuff signing away privacy and everything so that whenever they are in the show and do stupid stuff (like getting drunk) they can air it.

We hadn't seen the first season so we didn't understand why it was set up like that, then on second season we understood!:

Paula was on some talk show saying that the reason they put on the shows filled with awful singers is that it's "great TV" because it's like a "train wreck" and she said people looooooooooove to watch the bad singers. I'm sick of the bad singers. I puttered around the house while the last couple episodes were on because doing the dishes was more fun.

And yet I continue to tune in.

Another fan here!!!
While I do like to watch some of the bad singers and have a good laugh this year they have shown WAY too many of them. I also think that Randy, now that he is 100 lighter, wants the high profile that Simon has by being the mean guy. I mean Randy was nothing like he has been the past two years.
I still like Paula but even she is getting mean. I guess when you hear so many bad ppl even the nicest ppl snap!:LOL

I LOVED the guy who sang to Paula. My main question is how do all these bad ppl even get through to see the three judges. I mean there is a pre-screening and while I realize that some bad ppl makes for good tv, WTH???? If I were a good singer and I didn't get through to the judges and then saw what did on the tv, I would be mad as hell

I too hope that they are saving the good ones for suspense reasons. This should be a good season!

I think they put the people who can't sing on first to cause everyone to more appreciate the voices of the contestants who can sing.

My favorite was the gal that didn't believe she couldn't sing. Simon told her to go sing at the mall and get ten people who would agree that she could sing and he would put her through. She sang and sang at the mall and no one would tell her she could sing. Then, she said singing and shaking her butt worked at parties and the guys really liked it, so she thought she was talented. Wow! How sad!

Then the lady who sang while the thunder rolled.........that was so funny......she wouldn't stop

Yup, another AI fan here!

I agree with the poster who said that Flashdance girl was a fake. Even her friend who met her outside the room afterwards seemed rehearsed. I'm sure lots of them are fakes, but there really must also be a whole lot of people who just have no clue what they sound like.

I was bummed that they hardly showed anyone good! I loved the guy who sang Unchained Melody - he was the one who said he had sung for the Pope and the President - he was excellent, and cute, too...and that guy who sang to Paula was pretty tasty, too! Scooter Girl had a good voice but she was just a little too crazy for me. I did not want them to put that Kim Caldwell clone through, but they did anyway...and let's see, who else was good? The one they called "the next Macy Gray," I think her name was Fantasia...and then that one whose dad sang a song about her was good too.

Other than that (maybe I missed one or two), most of the ones they let through were pretty blah in my opinion.

I totally agree!!

I didn't even realize ( : ) that they did a prescreen (although why I didn't think this I'm not too sure : ) and when I seen that they did on yesterday episode, I was like why are there soooo many bad singers then! I'd be telling the pre-screeners to knock it off if I was a judge!

Jen

p.s I liked that football guy last night...he was pretty good!!
wwhippetcrazy I like the football guy too!!!

Yeah I too do not understand how prescreeeners let SO many bad ppl in???: I am surprised that Simon didn't do something about that. Although lets face it maybe there are just not that many talented ppl out there. Except what about all those ppl going to college or conservatory for musical theater, opera and just plain singing? I HAVE to think there were better ppl out there?
I think that the prescreeners have 2 quotas; one for the good people and one for the bad people. Until they chose their people to go back to L.A. and have them there competing, which is when you really get to know the contestants, the motivation to watch is to see the horrendous auditions. I really have to beleive that they pay some of those people to put on the ghastly performances that they do. That show gets a lot of milage out of Simon's scathing critiques so the more the better.

Whew...all that judgment aside....I still love watching it!

I liked the football guy too! Did you hear him singing the opera when he came out of the audition room? That was REALLY good.

You are probably right about the quotas too....and as much as I like the show....I also hope that there are more good singers out there. Could you imagine sitting in that stadium waiting for your turn to sing to the prescreeners!! I think that lady with the 7 month old said she missed out on 2 days with him because she was sitting in the stadium! : That's dedication!

OK, so did it rub anyone the wrong way when football guy was saying why he thought he'd be a good American Idol and he said, "Well first, I'm American!" That comment coming after the American from Vietnam made it through seemed like it was purposely timed by the producers to be provocative. Maybe football guy was just trying to make a joke about how he met at least one requirement, but it seemed bigoted to me.

Well, it looks like next week will be a good one. I was fast forwarding through the end and my husband told me to stop because we had to watch the bad guy who sang and danced to the Ricky Martin song. ROFL.

I saw the little preview clip of Simon telling the one contestant that if he had sung that badly at a karaoke bar, they'd turn off the power. No, unfortunately you can practically belch out a song in a karaoke rotation and the kj will probably let you get away with it.
