What to do with old diapers?

I have about 3 or 4 cloth diapers that just don't seem to work too well. I don't want to throw them out, i also don't want to give them away since they tend to get damp.

They are a pocket diaper with a folding insert. I want to reuse as much of the diaper as possible in some type of project.

I'm thinking of using the PUL to make lunch baggies out of...maybe sandwich it between two pieces of fabric so the food doesn't actually touch the pul? would that be too icky? Its not like the pul is filthy and and i would be sure to wash it really well...

other then that, i have no idea what to do with them! they have served us well over the last 3 years

any ideas what to do with the inserts?

Thanks! Melissa

PUL diapers are tricky to repurpose. TBH I would give them to someone who needs diapers. A leaky diaper is better than no diaper, for sure. Maybe FFS?

With my fiteds I use the liners as dish rags (as long as they're reasonable. I have a ton of diapers that were only peed in, but the outer part of the fitted started to disintegrate and the liner was still perfectly good) and then whatever is left of the outer portion I use as rags for nastier jobs like floor mopping, car washing, etc.

Sometimes putting PUL covers in the drier will melt the plastic stuff enough that it covers holes from sewing. Maybe try that and see if there is any improvement? It probably wouldn't solve the issue if the plasticy stuff is cracked, but if it helps them work any better then they might be useful to you or another person who needs diapers.

ETA thought of an idea! You could make training pants! Either sew a PUL liner with fabric over it into preexisting undies, or start from scratch. If you're familiar with Brite Bots you'll know what I mean--they have a waterproof layer just in the crotch to prevent seepage when there are small "leaks." Or you could go for a more absorbent training pant DIY and use a wider crotch are lined with PUL, and an absorbent layer on top, for larger leaks.

Happy sewing, whatever you decide!

I don't think I'd use pul on food. I kinda doubt you'd have enough, anyway. You should have enough for 1 cloth pad or 2 panty liners per dipe, though.

The inserts are great for dusting, generally.

My son loves putting diapers on stuffed animals.
