Who has an ice cream maker? - Page 2

We have the cuisinart and love it. We use it almost exclusively for mango ice cream though.

Why have home made ice cream if it's not mango? what's the point? ! One thing about ice cream is that it always has to taste good going in to the machine-- make your adjustments at that time.

Oh, and it's not vanilla, but Alton Brown's Orange Sherbet is AMAZING :

I have that ice cream maker (or a very similar cuisinart ice cream maker).

I've been very pleased with how easy and delicious the ice cream has been. I haven't used it since last summer.

I liked the very chocolate ice cream!

I also made a blackberry buttermilk ice cream that was really good (despite my accidentally subbing almond extract for vanilla extract).

The consistency is different than the standard store bought ice cream. It turns out a harder ice cream that isn't as fluffy as some of the store bought ice creams. But I like my icy hard ice cream. The recipes that use eggs come out more like store bought ice cream.

We have the cuisinart and we love it too!

During the summer we just store the bowl in the deep freezer all the time - so it's always nice and chilled.

We use the recipes in the book it came with - always using the "premium" recipes, which have eggs in them. Mmmm. Higher fat content means a creamier ice cream. If you serve it straight out of the machine it will be quite soft. If you want to firm it up a bit before serving, just throw the whole bowl in the freezer for 20ish minutes before serving.

Last summer we made a chai ice cream. We followed the recipe in the booklet for premium vanilla ice cream, and when we were heating the milk/cream on the stove, we threw in a few chai tea bags to brew. It was AMAZING!

We have the Kitchen Aid Ice Cream attachment. My kids' favourite these days is some vanilla yogurt and frozen raspberries mixed in the ice cream maker. It doesn't get much easier than that

I just had to come back and say I LOVE my new ice cream maker! So far we've made chocolate and tonight strawberry. I don't even usually like strawberry ice cream, but this is heavenly!

I also have the cuisinart two quart and one bowl.

My favorite recipe is from the ben and jerry ice cream cook book. It is sweet cream. I use that as the base for just about everything but sorbet.

I also have the Chefs Choice Ice Cream Cone Maker. I love that too. We have Sunday parties all the time.

Mmmm--do you know if the good bacteria in yogurt survive the cold? That would be cool!

I read a/b the frozen remains of a mastadon being found that had LIVING bacteria in its belly--that were millions of years old! And they survived in the frozen state! So I wonder a/b this w/ things like yogurt, kefir, etc...
