nak....

late start OOPS!

hope everyone had a nice long weekend....
So in the past two weeks:

back bathroom had water on the floor - ther was a pipe leaking under the sink - but in a bad spot so the cabinet had to come off - but it's now fixed!

mower breaks and can't be repaired (well easily) - needs new engine - looking for new engine or used mower

pipe coming in from the well has medium leak and spraying water all over the basement. dh got that fixed too

hot water doesn't work! GRRR meaning i have a pile of laundry and dishes - the people are coming out today in a few hours - i hope they can fix it today because i'll be gone all tomorrow

noticed water on the bathroom floor - something else is leaking that dh'll have to fix when he gets home. Hopefully he can find and fix it easily or fairly easily like the others....

Man oh man though - common house, do you need to do this all at once?!

On great news my parents are looking for a new vehicle and would be getting rid of their van. No clue why they didn't think we'd want it, but let them know we do! OMG that would be so nice to have room to actually get around with the 4 of us and the dog, and room for additional passangers on top. we'd be able to transport large items without having to ask my parents to do the transporting for us all the time!. I'm hoping they find something they like.

Oli's liking the sling more. He likes to nap in it during the day. Daytime is still more difficult for him and when he cries. Evenings he tends to be happy and sleepy boy. Dh got out his bouncy seat and he hates it. Also brought the swing up, but it needs mega cleaned so i can see if he likes that better.

no clue if i was getting mastisis or what. the boob isn't sore, but still feels hard in the same area. I've tried different positions and still can't get him to empty it. Before this it would ampty in that spot. I'm thankful it doesn't hurt but if it's clogged then it'll probably start hurting. After I get hot water i'm going to try some warm washclothes. Massaging hasn't done much for it.

Sounds like a plugged duct... this is what the one I had felt like. Maybe try massaging it in a downward motion towards the nipple while nursing? That was what I was doing. Also, I blame the bra I was wearing that week (hadn't gotten any new ones yet, and it was too small.) So maybe think about whether it could be the bras fault? Hope it clears up for you!

You could heat up a wet washcloth in the microwave in the meantime and see if that helps? Mastitis is NOT fun, my sis has had it several times. Luckily, I haven't so far....knock on wood...

my LO hates slings I guess. She does like the Bjorn, so we are sticking with that. The last few days have been better (thank you block feeding and whomever mentioned it first) and she loves to lie diaperless on the floor and kick!!!

On other news...poor baby does not have acne, is very allergic to detergent apparently, anyone holding her is giving her a rash, it was so bad saturday that her fever was 100.2 and doctor said to take her to the ER at 100.4. I am washing EVERYTHING in dreft. and she has pretty much cleared up. Crazy thing is even someone holding her for 2 minutes with her face touching their clothes...and the spots start to come back....poor thing. Oh, and she's constipated, 2 days w/out a BM, doc says suppository, any other ideas before I do that??

Are you breastfeeding? It's supposed to be really unusual for bf babies to be constipated; I've read that some go for a week w/out a bowel movement. It's because the food is so perfectly digested.

Not that I have that issue....dd2 still poops many times a day.

We do tummy points. With baby on your lap facing you, push lightly with vibrations from left side below belly button and go around the belly button to the right side, then sort of lift up with your fingers back around the other way then do the vibrations again to the right side (always ending on the right side as that is the way your intestines go I guess). We do this multiple times throughout the day has always worked well on baby and 4 year old, even myself! I'm not sure if you can look it up online to see if there are better directions, our chiropractic physican showed us. Also warm baths tend to help my DD1 get stuff going. Otherwise we did have to do suppositories once or twice with DD1 as a baby, I hated it, but it worked.

Went to a babywearing meeting...bummer that only 2 people showed up so I didn't get as many opinions and see as many wraps as I had hoped. They do have an evening one tonight, so might go and see if I can get more info. I'm debating now between a mei tie or cotton gauze wrap. I just can't decide. The mei tai would be faster to get on and has less fabric so cooler, also easier to nurse upright which LO likes. But the wrap has more coverage for when outside and around others and I know LO likes it as she loves the moby. Decisions, decisions...but both have good reviews of being lightweight for summer wear. Wish money wasn't an issue, I'd buy both!

Had a great weekend. Had a picnic at a state park on Sunday with DH, DD1, my mom, Brother and SIL. Used BG cloth dipes all day and it worked out just fine. DD1 had a blast playing with grandma on the beach. Fun day! Nice to feel normal again. Monday it rained so after a brunch with friends we just hung out in our bed just the four of us laughing/resting/nursing/playing.

LO slept all afternoon yesterday...soooo was up from 10:30-1 then up again at 4. UGH. Poor DH he had her most of the time as I was sooo tired from the lack of deep sleep due to nursing/cosleeping at night.

I love my Mei Tai and it's the only one Eden likes, but I haven't figured out how to nurse in it. She sits above my breasts in it at this point b/c she's too little yet to have her legs hanging out (maybe 2 more pounds before this is an option). Right now her legs are tucked in and she kind of uses the leg holes as stirrups and her bum is lowest. Her head tends to be just below my collar bone. It would be such an awesome trick if I could nurse in it!

Just have to say I LOVE my BG 3.0. I bought them as an afterthought b/c my SIL loved hers so much and I wanted some pockets for traveling, etc. They keep dd so much drier than her pfs, so they're great for outings and long car rides. If I ever have money for dipes again, I'll be getting more bg!

Nursing in the Mei Tai I just loosened the top straps and bounced LO down until she was at breast height then tied it back up to nurse. I do have to hold my breast for her but I usually do anyway. LO still had her legs folded up under her too.

BG they are fitting so good at just over 9lbs! We have tons of pockets as that is the only thing we used with DD1 but they are all too small for infant so we did try some fitteds and wraps but have used alot of sposies up till now. I"m really feeling more comfortable about being out with two kids that I think I can tackle CDing outside of the house! I want to buy a few more BG to last us till our Blueberries fit...we'll see how much $$$ I can get out of my infant fitteds/covers.

yes, i am BF, but she usually poops 5-6 or more times a day....just once sunday, and nothing since, and she does seem to struggle like she's trying to poop sometimes....maybe it's normal and I hould skip the supp?
I'd try sending something, um, "loosening" through my system before I'd try the suppository. A little prune juice maybe?

I mean, the suppository's not going to kill her, by any means, but it won't be particularly pleasant for either of you. So maybe prune juice and hold off one more day...

I would skip it... it's really normal for breastfed babies to have less poops at this age (also normal not to- mine's a pooper so far). Quite often babies will go several days without pooping, grunt a ton and act really uncomfortable, then have a totally soft poop. Leg cycling and clockwise tummy massage might help; also a bit of bum massage with a warm face cloth. I have a friend whose exclusively BF son usually only pooped a couple of times a month!!

We had a date night without the kids and went to a concert on Sunday night. Neela was in bed before we left, and our very good friend babysat. Nora did great, and so did the babysitter I know that leaving a baby this young is not MDC-perfect, but I really find it helpful for my relationship to be able to get away and re-connect with my partner and have an adult conversation without the interruption. And the time away refreshes me to be a better parent. The concert was fun, and even with the sleep deprivation we had a good day yesterday.

And we're off to Ottawa with my husband for his book launches/conference tomorrow. Wish us luck for the five hour plane ride...the iPod has the white noise track uploaded

On the poop issue- Caleb only poops everyother day mostly and then he has two poops in a few hours. If he seems uncomfortable try taking a rectal temp- the stimulation to the rectum can cause a "natural" reaction . My 7 and 4 yo both had pooping issues when babes (but not when bfing- after weaning) and wen t for a week each before we tried soppositories but they did their job and it didn't seem to bother them too much. Its kinda like putting in a themometer (sp) and just waiting for them to go.

How much does yours sleep?

How long does your LO sleep at this point?

Mine seems to still sleep ALL THE TIME. He is gaining weight well and seems fine during his alert periods, but honestly it seems like he sleeps 20 hours of the day. He wakes to nurse of course but then right back to sleep, he'll play a few minutes than go back to sleep, he STTN for 6 hours or more with perhaps one brief waking to nurse. BTW he's 5 weeks old now.

Terran is 8 weeks old and still sleeps most of the day. Some days now he is finally starting to wake up for a couple of hours or more at a time, but other days he still sleeps almost all day, just waking to nurse. He also sleeps well at night. I have been surprised at how much I have been able to get done every day!
Eden is 6.5 weeks and has two alert non-eating periods during the day. I'd say she's awake around 6 hours a day? Guessing.

MelW, I think it's great baby's fine with a sitter you trust.

thanks for all the responses on the poop issue! i went into the store and bought the suppositories and she pooped while we were in there, scared it right out of her!!!! lol she has even pooped again. i think she feels better! and i do too. it was a significant amount of normal watery poop, so all is good i think.

anyone else with a lo with big siblings who are involved in things and the lo doesn't sleep well when you go? any suggestions? every time someone yells go team, she startles, and wakes up. i sit as far away from people as i can. blah. by the time we get home she is exhausted and very fussy, poor thing.
oh! she is 8 weeks tomorrow, and still sleeps alot most days. i would say on an average, good day(where she sleeps enough and isn't overly tired) she sleeps 18 hours or more, so she's awake about 6 hours total, with eating?

Cooper is 5.5 weeks and he is actually awake a good amount during the day. If I rock him he will usually fall asleep pretty easily. We also love to nurse to sleep in bed whether its nap time or bed time. He is such an easy going baby!

Goodmama - I'm glad DD finally pooped!!

We are in Minnesota visiting my in laws. Cooper did SO well on his first plane ride!

Glad you're having a good time...I missed your posts. Hope Cooper's having some good grandparent bonding time.

Nathan's dad was here over the weekend and held Eden for our whole band practice. He's really great with her .

my older son went from being a many-times-a-day pooper to a once-a-day pooper quite abruptly to a one every week or 2 pooper. I never did anything about it and he was fine. When he started eating food it all changed. He has no probs now- extremely regular actually (could be the vegetarian diet and the TONS of fresh fruit he eats and daily bowl of steel-cut oats... but its also just how he is- very predictable body rhythms)

this little one (4 weeks today! wow!) has so far NEVER pooped more than once every few days. When she goes though, wow, its a lot.

my understanding is that there is a HUGE variation in what is normal in exclusively BF babies and that suppositories and other measures can possibly do more harm than good, and are almost always not needed for exclusively BF babies. anyway, its totally different than it would be for us to go that long w/out eliminating.

okay, enough poop talk.

seems like this baby sleeps almost all day to me too. Very short awake periods though once in a while she goes for 2-3 hours awake, usually not. unfortunately she seems very lively right now though and its 10:40, and I would love to go to bed. gonna get all ready and change her diaper and then try another big nurse in bed to see if that does the trick. She's been awake since about 8:45 so it can't be much longer, right?
