help me prep my new disana pull on woolcover!

:

It arrived yesterday. So far I have gently hand washed it twice, and am allowing it to dry. I plan on hand washing it two or three more times, or until the water comes clear.

now, how do I lanolinize it? Do you start with a wet diaper? or a dry diaper?

what about trying to felt it a bit in the 'wetzone'? What if I wanted to shrink it up just a bit?

Help! (I am really excited!)

The "How-To" booklet from GMD says that Disana's benefit from heavy lanolization and some hand felting.

So use some lansinoh on the cover. I melt some in hot water and pour into my sink full of luke warm water. Then swish the cover through the water. I do my soakers inside out but if its brand new I would maybe do it once inside out and once regular (whats the word I'm looking for here?!)

To felt the cover roll in a towel to squeeze out water. While its still wet rub it hard between your hands in the area you want to felt (wet zone!). Karen of GMD says they perform better after they've been broken in a bit so use lots of diaper under there at first!

Good Luck! I hope you like it. I'm going to get a disana as soon as DD grows out of her current soakers.

Lanolinise once insideout, and then once right side out?

I think I'm gonna have fun just prepping this cover! I can definately see the appeal!

I need to go get some lansonoh.

Anyone used the Imse Vimse wool cure? it seems simpler than using lansinoh.

I would go with the Lansinoh for the first lanolizing. Woolcare should be enough to maintain it once you have it prepped, but the first time, you want a LOT of lanolin. These will leak pretty badly without some prep. I do what the PP said-- dissolve a LOT of it in a coffee cup of boiling water, then add it to a lukewarm sink, turn the cover inside out, and swish it around, then roll it in towels and lay it out to dry. It can also be dried over a fan if you want it dry faster. The cover will be a little sticky, but baby's skin will absorb the extra-- that's why you turn it inside out, though.

How old is baby? My kids always felted the backside part themselves, just by scooting around on the floor. But if baby isn't to the scooting stage yet, you can felt it up a little just by some hard rubbing while it's wet-- take a washcloth and rub at that area as though you were trying to remove a stubborn stain. That should do it.

well, I'm looking at using it for nighttime, so I guess I'll try felting it in strategic areas myself.

I noticed it smells a little like a perm! Should I (hand)wash it until that smell goes away, or will it stay a while?

My diasana covers kept the smell. I don't mind it, it's mild. I wouldn't try to shrink it because they fit so nicely loose and airy and breathe better for the baby that way. I accidentally shrank a pair and I don't like it now, it's too stiff and hot. I can't double it up over FB at night which is my favorite way to use it.

well, tonight is the test run!

I did felt it up a bit, and it seems OK. He's wearing it over two cotton prefolds, folded strategically.

The perm smell has faded considerably, and lanolizing was a lot easier than I thought!

I'm excited to se what happens!
