vaccine reaction?

Thread Starter
We have been using an alternate vaccine schedule. If I was soley making the decision regarding vaccines I would not vaccinate. My husband and I found a compromise by using the alternate schedule listed in Dr. Sears book. My son got DTAP and rotovirus last week. Several hours after he got the vaccines he screamed for 2 hours straight. A bath soothed him for about 15 minutes and then he was screaming again. It was pretty horrible. From what I understand this sounds like a typical reaction. I understand that it was pretty mild, but it broke my heart. I wonder what was going on in his body to make him so uncomfortable. Anyway, I am pretty nervous about continueing with the vaccines. Any words of wisdom out there?

Don't.
From what I have read on the internet and from the way to frequent 'is this a reaction??' threads it seems reactions get worse each time.
I would stop. I would tell DH too bad.

Screaming for 2 hours straight several hours AFTER getting the vaccine.... is pretty mild according to who?

Why would this child scream 2 hours after the shot? When I asked my own ped why a child would scream so after a shot, he said it was likely from the pain of the injection.... 2 hours after?

Sounds like a classic reaction, but far from mild, unless you call a possible brain injury mild.

My husband never would have opted out of shots if he didn't witness the damage they can cause firsthand. Sad but true.

I hope your child recovers, but I would seriously revisit the issue with the spouse. Do you really want to continue to play russian roulette with your child's life?

Hi, jessaroo. That sounds very frightening and while some peds will tell you it's a "normal" reaction, it might very well indicate something far more sinister. The DTaP is a very reactive vaccine and reactions to it tend to be most mild on the first shot, and reactions have increasing severity with each subsequent shot.

Here is a very good thread about it: What causes the DTaP scream?

I hope you will give serious consideration to halting vaccination altogether until you have the chance to do your own research and decide whether to keep vaccinating or not. You should never let someone bully you into vaccinating if you're not entirely comfortable with the contents of the vaccines and the possible reactions. Vaccines are drugs, after all. Like all drugs, they have side effects and adverse reactions.

It sounds like your LO has already had a rather severe reaction. In your shoes I would definitely stop.

Along the lines of encephalitic scream - swelling of the brain. I would not be getting any more vaccines. Of course, the doctor will tell you that it is normal. Just like seizures after vaccines are normal. Huge lumps on legs to where the child can't even walk it hurts so bad. It is all normal.

God....when did encephalopathy become normal?? Swelling of the brain, injury to the brain is normal??? The fact that something like this is considered "normal" among the medical community is a travesty IMO.

I would stop...this reaction is a warning (JMHO). I hope your baby recovers

When creating chronic disease and pharmaceutical distribution became far more profitable than preserving human health. In other words, when "Primum non nocere" became a quaint joke among allopaths.
