Swimming in the pool

DD loved the pool when were on our honeymoon a few weeks ago, and we didn't have cloth with us. What should I know about taking my little fish in our pool with cloth? TIA

I had a size medium Diaperaps swim diaper that got us through THREE summers--ages 8 months, 20 months and almost 3 years--we definitely got our money's worth out of that!

We have an imse vimse swim diaper that we love! Had one for DS last year too, but the new baby will use it this year.

Can you get around buying a "swim diaper"? I looked at swim diapers, but honestly I think we'll only use one 1-2 times before the summer ends (baby's due end of August) so I think that would be $ wasted. Can I just use a regular cover?

I'm wondering this too. I was talking to my mom about it and she suggested just using a FB with no insert as a swim diaper.

I think you can use just a pocket with no insert but it would need to be very snug fitting, since it won't have the insert. When DS was in a medium FB on the smallest snaps we used a small FB as a swim diaper once.

I guess although I have not tried it.

We actually have ended up eventually using large sized swim diapers as trainers over underware. The iPlay ones work great and are on sale here.

We've used too small pockets as swim diapers without the insert and the imse vimse swim diapers as well. With repeated use though I would worry about the chlorine breakind down the pul though.

I've used a Bummis Super Whisper Wrap alone as a swim diaper. I agree with the PP that the chlorine would bother me with repeated use.

You can get some at Target for $5, or you could maybe use a pull-on diaper cover. I have successfully used pockets, but I wouldn't use one that you still want as a diaper. The chlorine could mess with it.

It's all about the poop

That is your real issue. If you have one older pocket that you don't mind sacrificing to the cause (chlorine will trash it), then try that. Just make sure whatever you use is leakproof. You simply don't want to be the family that leaked poop into the water and caused the pool to be shut down when they flash chlorinate it. THAT would be no fun.

Imse Vimse makes some great swim diapers and has matching tankini tops if you have girl. A PUL cover would also be good if the legs are snug and the top is tight.

Good luck and have fun at the pool!

i love these...i got a little lime colored one with daiseys....sooo cute!

i used a polar bummis that was one size too small.....just make sure water/air doesnt get trapped, which can either sink the bum or float it, both dangerous.

We tried the target cheapo one with a disposable, but the sposie ballooned up very quickly. I don't think there was any diaper sticking out, but perhaps there was a little bit... *sigh* we'll try again with our backyard pool again soon. I hate being :...we love the sunny summertime.

you shouldn't be using the disposable in the water - just the cover alone. the goal is merely poop containment.

oh ok. I don't know very much about sposies. kept putting them on backwards bc i thought the picture goes in the front. unfortunately both sides had pictures.
no insert or anything? cool.

I used a Bummis without anythign in it all summer. I liked that it held up very well.

There was a thread a while back about someone who used a pocket diaper empty with no inserts as a swim diaper. That person reported that an air bubble got trapped in the pocket and caused the baby to go bottom up. For me, that is a potential safety issue so I don't recommend empty pockets for that reason. It may be an unlikely occurance, but if it is at all possible, i would rather be safe than sorry. We really liked the imse vimse swim diapers! They fit very snug.

We haven't swam yet, but I thought I would use a flannel RRP as a swim diaper. Just something to hold the poo.
