How to get Tide out?

My hubby complained that the cloth diapers smell weird and asked why we can't wash in Tide. Admittedly they've gotten a tad on the stinky side recently. I got an email from a CD site saying that Tide is the detergent they have gotten the least complaints about. So I decided to give it a try on Sunday. I put the Tide in for a regular wash on hot and then set the washer for a short wash on hot to attempt to make sure all the detergent was rinsed out.

The smell of the dipes wasn't improved by much so I shrugged it off as a waste of time. On Monday, my guy had a major pooping day. (I think he reacted to something in my milk but that's for another forum.) My MIL was over and watching him but missed that he pooped. His bottom was reddened when I changed his diaper. I chalked it up to too much time with poop on his bottom and too frequent pooping. Last time we had a day like this, his bottom cleared up quickly. But yesterday he was still red. I put him in a sposie overnight last night and this morning his bottom is looking better. (Over Monday night, I had him in cloth.)

I searched here and sure enough, Tide can cause rashes. Ugh. I'm hesitant to put the CDs on my son right now because his rash is doing better in sposies. So I'm looking for recommendations to get the Tide out of my cloth so I can use them again.

I would just do a bunch of hot washes with nothing... that should get anything out. You only used it once so I don't think there would be a huge amount of buildup!! Also, you could probably just do your normal wash routine with the soap you were using then a couple extra hot cycles.

I have to use Tide to get our diapers clean (really hard water) and then a ton of hot rinses to make sure all of the detergent is gone. It's the only thing that works for us.

ANY laundry detergent can cause diaper rash depending on the individual baby, and ALL laundry detergents need to be rinsed THOROUGHLY or the dirt won't all be rinsed out either.

I never got the Tide out and threw my diapers away. No matter how much I stripped, the enzymes never came out and the enzyme rash persisted.

I wish this rumor about Tide curing stink had not gotten started. I use natural, cloth- and bum-safe detergents and never have stink. Tide only caused problems.

I put my inserts in a soak with a bit of bleach then tossed in my pockets and did a heavy duty wash with my usual, Country Save, followed by a couple of short hot washes then a cold rinse to be sure. The inserts don't smell anymore. The fleece of my pockets still have a bit of odor though.

I've had my guy back in cloth for the morning and we'll see how things go.

turn up the mixing valve on your water heater - all the way up. that will help get the tide out and keep the stink at bay in the future. hot water is the key.

Alright, no rash!

katie - The water seems to be pretty hot. Some of these dipes I've been using since November, others since January. I've really had pretty few problems.

: Plus it also depends on what kind of water you have and the temp of the water. I purposely would turn our water to the highest setting when doing diapers. I would do a prewash (no detergent) normal wash w/soap and then another full wash no detergent. I never had a problem with *stinky* washed diapers. I would also throw in a few drops a tea tree oil in the water on the final wash. Is it also possible that the diapers are taking too long to dry? Anything if left too humid too long will stink.
