my boy!

I was *very* tired this morning -- a combination of being on my feet at work all weekend, and a middle of the night incident with my 3 year old.

Anyway, my 7 year old son is off today for MLK day. This morning, he fixed bowls of cereal for himself and his little brother. He got out clothes for his little brother, and encouraged him to get dressed. Then he kept his brother quiet until 10:00 when I finally woke up wondering what was going on. AND -- he put all the clean dishes away from the dishwasher!!

I came downstairs to two smiling happy boys. Unbelievable, isn't it???!! I'm loving this new phase of mothering bigger kids.

Awww... What a sweetie! It's nice to read stories like this, because I think our family is complete now (I have two boys, like you) and, though I feel a little wistful about never having a baby again, I'm also looking forward to such future stages of parenting. Hope you're well-rested and enjoy the day!

I'm with ya! My guys made their own breakfast (bagels and bananas) and even made me a pot of tea while I was in the shower!

I just *have* to post this...

Okay, so that was pretty cool of my kids. But the NEXT morning I found myself trapped in the bathroom when the doorknob broke, naked! And I couldn't get out to save my life! My 7 yo ds went and got a screwdriver, shouting through door, "Its okay mom! I can get you out!" He disassembled the doorknob and rescued me. Meanwhile, he ordered his brother to guard their breakfast from the dog. He was late for school that day because of the extra time it took to rescue me. If he wasn't able to do that for me, I don't know what I could have done!!! I'd have had to direct them to call someone somehow, I guess. LOL!

Its good to have a competent child around!

Hey, I can't even get my HUBBY to fix doorknobs in my house !

My 8 year old is very competent too.....see what happens when you treat your children with the respect most people reserve for adults only..
