Giving castor oil a try

I'm 41w 3 days today and a little constipated anyway, and had castor oil in the pantry for soapmaking anyway, so I'm trying a conservative dose of castor oil. I meant to get rid of the stuff before I came due just in case this became a temptation, but it stuck around. Made a shake I'm sipping on now, it's pretty palatable: milk, spoonful of peanut butter, half a banana, a couple frozen strawberries, and crushed ice, with 1/8 cup (about 1 oz) castor oil. I just attribute the oilness to the peanut butter so it's not gross. Wish me luck (on not having nasty or painful bathroom effects and on effectiveness)!

Good luck! I've never heard of using a dosage that small, but I hope it's what it takes to kick things in gear for you!

I'm 41 weeks, and yesterday I picked up a bottle of castor oil in rite aid and wound up putting it back. I'm not quite there yet... maybe after my appointment for ultrasound and nst tomorrow.

Let us know how it goes! I've heard doing several smaller doses over the course of a number of hours works well (like 1 oz, wait 2 hours, another 1 oz, wait 2 hours, etc). Good luck!

Having general tightness of the belly similar to every evening now, no real contractions. Stool got a bit loose I guess. Felt yucky just now cause I got hungry, waiting to digest my afternoon meal a bit before I consider another small dose.

Edit (5:30 eastern): Never did take another dose, castor beans are toxic I believe and it's kinda yucky in every way though I masked in well in the shake. But! I'm having lots of mild contractions, have been for about an hour randomly. This is more than I've gotten as BH or anything except while walking a lot, and I'm just laying or sitting around mostly. Oh and I dyed some playsilks, DS wanted "superman red" for a cape.

Edit (6:30): Bloody show now, and still having mild ctx. Texted DH to wrap things up at work in case we're having a baby tomorrow and he won't be in.

Baby is here as of 12:40 this (Friday) morning, my early labor took a long time, slept between contractions all night the first night, but yesterday afternoon active labor kicked in. Had an early transition, at 4-6cm ish I got hit with hard contractions and self doubt and stuff, then after that did ok once I acclimated to the new strength of them. Wasn't so bad until 2nd stage, when things swelled and I needed to blow through pushing contractions to ease it up. Oh and there were 2 different layers of amniotic bags that burst during pushing. When I couldn't hold back the pushing anymore and my body took over apparently it was time, because in one huge contraction his head suddenly crowned and came out. And I didn't tear despite that.

Our second little boy, Morgan Connor, was born at home into the hands of his daddy, with the assistance of a great midwife. He weighed 8lbs 2oz, 19" long (small compared to his big brother at birth), he started nursing well right away though today he's sleepy. He's really calm and alert when he's awake.
