Hi! I'm new to post but have been lurking on this list for a little while
I'm mom to two very active, highly sensitive girls, and although they have not been tested as gifted, the clues are there (both my DH and I are and they seem to take after us in many ways.) Our youngest shows all the signs of a VS learner so I've been doing lots of reading and research into what this means in addition to gifted kids and highly sensitive kids. It has been very educational and has taught me a lot about myself and my husband as well!
Anyway -- DD1 (7) is very into art and has been ever since I can remember. She has always loved wildlife but right now she is interested in drawing trees and knowing all about the different kinds of trees. Her art teacher gave her an EP on her report card which I guess means exceptionally proficient since there is no code for that on the sheet, and told us it was because she had a great sense of spatial awareness and balance on her artwork which was beyond her age. She also plays Suzuki violin and is currently working on Humoresque and shifting studies. I taught her very first piano lesson today which she was excited about. Although her creativity can drive me crazy sometimes (the MESSES this girl can create!) she is a very sweet and imaginative child. She also thinks she is so at one with cats that she could be a cat (although we have never owned one!) She is as introverted as I am and highly perfectionistic but I think musical performances have really helped bring her out of her shell. She likes to read chapter books and has been choosing the pre-teen books like Dear Dumb Diary and Confessions from the Principal's Chair, so it has been interesting talking about the themes of those books even though she hasn't really experienced them yet. She does not like anything scary so I don't think we can do Harry Potter for a little while.
DD2 (5) has very much a heart and soul for music as it has always been her love and has always been the only thing to calm her down ever since she was a baby. She has been singing on pitch since 10 months and we are suspicious that she has perfect pitch, or at least is close to it. She sings all the time and about 2 octaves higher than most people -- which annoys her sister, but her dad and I think is really cute! She is also learning Suzuki violin and is playing Minuet 1. She also loves puzzles, does 100 piece but enjoys doing them with someone, reads at about a first grade level, and loves geography and learning French. She goes to a Montessori preschool which seems to be a perfect fit for her -- which has been a relief for me as it seems her learning style does not fit in with the "traditional" school method. She is even more sensitive than her sister though and does not like any type of robot especially Chuck E Cheese and the talking moose at Bugaboo Creek.
Her gross motor skills are behind as she isn't as physically active as her sister, but is making good progress and seems to do much better at the playground.
They have both started summer break and so I've signed them up for a whole bunch of summer day camps to keep them (and me) happy and the house from looking too destroyed! But they are both a lot of fun to be around!
Sorry for the long intro. I enjoy reading your posts and really relate to a lot of your stories!
PS. I started writing this yesterday morning but was sidetracked by double-meltdowns and only got back to finishing this now!
