Diaper covers just started leaking...

We've been using Thirsties diaper covers for about the past year and have really liked them. Just recently, a few of them have started to leak through the PUL. We don't use bleach or vinegar or anything harsh. They are washed on hot and hung up to dry about every other day. Can we dry them on hot to melt the PUL a little to restore a moisture lock or is there some other trick? Thanks for any thoughts!

I would definitely try throwing them in the dryer!! I have heard that its good to dry them occassionally

I would try this. Some manufacturers swear by it and others I've heard say it doesn't make any difference but it certainly won't hurt it.

I know a lot of people who have had luck with the hot dryer approach. I would absolutely start with that.

Good luck

Many manufacturers who make PUL containing items like diaper covers suggest drying on hot to get the PUL to be waterproof again. It should really help.

Try the hot dryer first.

When you look on the inside of the cover, does it look normal? Are there spots peeled away? If so, there's not much hope of restoring them. If all the laminate is intact, then the hot dryer might work.

I'm having a different problem now...I tried switching detergent (to Biokleen) and it's doing a number on my diapers. They are both stinky and less absorbant. It seems like my covers are leaking, but I think it's just that I get leaks faster because my diapers aren't absorbing well, if that makes sense. I don't know if that could be a possibility for you.

I just ordered Country Save - I'm switching to that, and once it comes I will strip everything and toss out that biokleen! I'm sure it's probably a fine detergent, just not working for us for diapers! Hopefully i can get them back to normal with some stripping and new detergent.

Anyhow, good luck! I hope you get your problem fixed!

Okay, thanks so much for all of your input! I will try the hot dryer method tomorrow and see how it goes! If no luck with that, we'll try switching detergent. Come to think of it, we did recently switch detergents - from Charlie's to a new one (can't think of the name right now). Hmmm... curious. Hopefully the hot dryer will work and we won't have to investigate any further!
