DH threw away my water kefir grains...

that I bought a week ago

It will be one of those moments that we will never forget. I've been agonizing over buying the grains - they cost so much but no one near me could get me any. So they're precious like gold. DH saw some pink liquid and pink grains sitting on the counter - and thought that I had actually been a caring wife and strained the pulp out of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice for him. He thinks I'm a better person than I am. And then he procedeed to throw out the "grapefruit pulp" and in the task of cleaning the kitchen ask me how I wanted the juice stored.

What a helpful husband: I know, he knows I know, that he was just being wonderful, helping, listening to me about how I need more help around the house. But AHHHHHHHH.....

I rinsed them and popped them into another batch. I hope they live......

That stinks! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

We have a standing rule that DH can touch nothing in the kitchen without asking...even if it looks like it should be thrown out It's the only reason my cultures survive!

oh no!!!

I'll bet they'll come back with some TLC :

I've just gotten mine, and I'm afraid to start 'em (they're dehydrated)

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, my FIL very helpfully poured my water kefir grains down the drain, so there was no resurrection for them.

DH has just learned not to touch any jar or pitcher of my "science experiments."

My husband used to do the same thing...

with good but dumb intention. He would throw out things that were useful to me, but not to him. He had learned his lessons the hard way over the years. Now, he doesn't touch anything in the kitchen without asking me first. I make sourdough starter, sprouts, yogurt, kefir, and temphe in the kitchen. If he sees something that he doesn't know what it is, instead of risking to lose his head, he keeps his hands to himself.
