WTF?!! How is music supposed to help with pain?!
I can see how music would allow people of all ages to calm down and relax in certain situations. BUT, and that is a big BUT, when a knife would cut through my private parts, then you better believe I would start screaming. No amount of Bach or Mozart is gonna lessen the pain for crying out loud! That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard! And even *IF* it did lessen the pain, not all of the pain would be gone. And not to mention it is still cosmetic surgery and serves no purpose. Even if there was NO pain, it would still be wrong:

When I was in high school, I did a senior project and I chose the topic of music therapy. There's real statistics that prove that music therapy helps reduce pain, speed healing and improve emotional health. So, yeah I believe it. However, it doesn't take away the risks of circumcision nor the benfits of an intact foreskin!

Hmmm...well last I checked skipping the circ altogether reduces pain and trauma for the baby.

Haha, bingo! Yes, music therapy I think would work in at least making the patient more comfortable and relaxed, possibly reducing the pain that way. However, obviously, the pain would not go away nor would the procedure's consequences and ethical questions be altered.

Oh, they can feel pain all right. That's why we give them pain medication for REAL surgeries. It's just the penis that can't feel pain because the nerves aren't fully developed in the penis. They just cry because they're strapped down and they're cold. That's why we shouldn't use pain relief - it makes them have to be strapped down longer.

Sadly enough, I've heard this argument actually used. This person kept insisting that babies just can't feel pain in their penises because the nerves aren't fully developed yet ONLY in the penis. Everywhere else the nerves work just fine. Denial at its best!

I've read that argument online several times. It's frustrating.

This is completely ridiculous! And horrifying. Like some really dark, absurd dystopian science fiction.

In fact it reminds me of Malcolm McDowell learning to unlike his favourite music ("Ludwig Van") in "A Clockwork Orange" by benig exposed to traumatic experiences while listening to "Ode to Joy". Research like the one described could probably teach babies to be really frightened of music.

These days... before even an open heart sergeries were preformed with no pain meds on newborns...
