leaking nappies. Help!!

This is my first time to use cloth nappies!! I got itti bitti snap in ones.

They are leaking pee and poo out the sides. I almost wish I had of gotten the all in ones instead of the snapin ones, because they seem less bulky.
The bulkiness is coming from the trifold bamboo booster.

Here is what I did. I started using them w/out washing them first. Tonight I first did a prewash w/out detergent or vinegar. Then I washed them w/ detergent and vinegar and then I did another wash w/ only vinegar. Now they are hanging out to dry.

Do you think they will get better the more I wash them?
How much washing till they get better?? Ive got twins and this is driving me nuts! :
Do you think I should buy hemp boosters elsewhere?? Ive read that hemp is more absorbant.

Okay - so I'm sleep deprived but did I read that you didn't prep them? IE wash them on hot several times with detergent and dry in between? If not - you need to do this before they become very absorbent.

Oops..... nope.

For the prepping do you use detergent for each wash?

Why hot water?

Drying? Do you mean line dry or dryer dry?

3 washes and 3 dries would take 3 days! I hope you mean to put them in the dryer!!

Thank you so much! Please excuse my ignorance! My friend told me I could just start using them. I was getting really frustrated and dissapointed.

Yes, dry them in the dryer for the prepping part of it. The initial washes are to strip the natural oils out of the fabric and make it more fluffy so it actually absorbs (which is probably why yours isn't). Most manufacturers recommend 3-5 cycles before use, and then as you use and wash them that will help with the absorbency a bit more still.

Ditto.

Don't get frustrated yet. Do the prep washes/dries, and see how they are working. you can probably use them after 3 cycles, but they will continue to get more absorbant over the next few weeks.

They are cute looking diapers! Nice and snuggly! : )

Good luck!

Is it possible that you're getting leaks because of the fit, not a lack of absorbing power (although prepping them as described by MommaShark IS important)? If the bamboo doubler/booster is creating a lot of bulk you might not be getting a good "seal" at the stomach or the back or sides. This has been happening with my son and the BumGenius diapers (folded over doubler = gap at the stomach = peeing out the top/sides).

Thats what Im not to sure about. When I change the nappies they are fully soaked. Because the booster is so thick there is a gap around the legs. If they poop laying on their back it doesnt leak but if they are on their side or in the car seat they leak. But their clothes tend to be damp as well so it could be an absorbancy issue too. I will wash/dry today and hopefully that will help! If not, I may look at some hemp boosters.

Same story with the BumGenius - if he's vertical we're cool. If he's lying down we get leaks. I don't have it figured out either. I'm mostly using prefolds and am considering just sticking with those long term unless I can get the pocket diaper leaking problem resolved.

Good luck solving it!
